  • removal of wiper seals from a fork…. how?

    Trying to give my recon air solo a service but cant take the wiper seals off… tried the screwdriver with a round shaft but with no luck.

    Any suggestions?

    Needs moar leverages.

    Personally I use a tyre lever

    18mm or similar open ended spanner. That’s what I’ve used before.

    Large open ended spanner (about 19mm), one jaw hooked under the seal, handle on the other side of the seal, and lever it up.

    Champion job – 19mm spanner did the job. Damn RockShox youtube video made it look soooooooo freaking easy. Didnt realise how much effort was needed!

    I’ve always got on with the old 17mm (or any one around that size) ring spanner and changed the position, moving it around slowly and edging it out…eventually it comes out. I’d probably remove the spring before doing this too (just roll it up over the lip of the seal.
