We have been to Majorca, E Pyrenees, Vercors, Ventoux, Girona and Rimini but fancy somewhere different. Any suggestions for an area and a base for some old blokes to do 50-60 mile days? Would prefer a cycling friendly accommodation that could organise transfers and possibly bike hire.

If it’s hill climbs that you enjoy, check out the ubaye region in the southern alpes.
There are 7 major cols departing from barcelonnette and you get a certificate if you do all of them. August the roads get busy with lots of tourists and motorbikes so September/early July are the best times.
(I live/run a hotel in le sauze, just up from barcelonnette).

Costa Blanca, Gran Canaria, Bourg D’Oisans, Dolomites (Corvara is a superb base), Barcelonnette as suggested above.

Somewhere like Bourg d’Oisans? You’re at the bottom of Alpe d’Huez, but also close to the Galibier/Telegraphe, Cole de la Croix de Fer, les Deux Alpe and various other good climbs.

Tenerife, or other Canary Islands, Mount Teide is the biggest climb in Europe…

Lake Annecy region. Really beautiful, roads relatively quiet away from the main roads and there are some car-free bike routes that run along the valley so you can access other areas fairly easily.

The mid-northern Veneto is good. There are flat valley roads, there are reasonable sized hills such as Monte Grappa, smaller pretty climbs ie Passo San Boldo. The food is good too.
We’ve stayed a couple of times in Pieve di Soligo.

We went to the Dolomites this year. Based ourselves near Arabba.
Some epic climbs near there including the Sella Ronda loop ( Arabba actually on the loop )
Passo Duran and Passo Giau also very close

It’s a stunning area with some awesome climbs and routes all very near
