Looking to take the family somewhere cheap, quaint, and ideally off grid this weekend..
Live on the south coast, and want to ‘get away’, but not too far.

A little cave in the welsh hills would be nice, but alas don’t want teh distance.

Was thinking of a static caravan type thing in Eastbourne, but mind not really operating at 100%.
Weather not looking too sharp for camping either!

    So…any suggestions??

cottage in Lyme Regis? or too far?

there’s some kid friendly soft play type places around there and there’s always rock pools to play in when the tide’s out?

Try the Haven website ,if you are after a static van for a break .

If you want off-grid, I can recommend Lundy.

Electricity goes off at night – open fires, no TV, WiFi or mobile signal. Loads of wildlife and a pub. Bliss.

Accommodation on the island is managed by the Landmark Trust.

We stayed here – it was great. have brilliant memories of sitting up in the light house on deckchairs drinking whiskey and eating fruitcake whilst an Autumn storm crashed against the tower. Lovely:

For proper back to basics, this may be another option:

Worth a call – we got a great deal on a last minute booking.

You can get boat from Ilfracombe or a heli from Hartland.

the question is….what are you planning to do?

Isle of Purbeck (as mentioned) is a great spot for beach walks, cliff walks, pubs, thatched cottages, castles and feels you’re on holiday!

Durdle door camp site might do a cheap static for the weekend!

*the facilities slightly had the smell of unmarried man about them (we were in the lighthouse), also the only pub with walking distance – something like – sitting on LHS meal A = 6.50, on RHS meal A = 7.50 ???? not a winner (*couple of years ago) (*there were takeaways that delivered)

BUT fabulous view, interesting surrounding – round Bill path (*not suitable windy day, children on rope, sculpture, old tramway etc etc), Weymouth harbour for nice scenes , buzz food etc, and you can bike all around it and we did it in BLAZING sunshine, suspect in winter it might be a bit draughty

Weather was looking ok in Eastbourne at the weekend, there’s the Martello caravan holiday park in pevensey bay, very near friston forest and South Downs, enigma bikes are up the road too in hailsham.

Worth taking the boy into hastings, the smugglers caves and the funicular railway are fun. De la warr pavilion in Bexhill and Seven sisters are worth a visit too.
