  • Recomend me some good Reggae Music

Having a pretty bad day and still loads of work to do.

Have been loving listening to David Rodigan on Radio 2 with his Reggae show. Such a shame it is only a 1 hour show.

Other than Mr Marley and the other well known big hitters recomend me some other good reggae or Dub.

Trojan Dub Collection is on Spotify, lots of stuff on there that you can investigate further.

+1 for Dr Alimantado and Burning Spear (Marcus Garvey is probably my favourite Reggae record)

The Skatalites in Dub (w/King Tubby) is great as well.

Used to be friends with a group of rastafarian lads from muswell hill. Their sound system needed more than 1 transit to transport. Everything I can ever get will always pale into insignificance.

If you like the Toots & Congos try The Chantels album.

I’m partial to Linton Kwesi Johnston too. The island comp is as good a place to start as any.

There is a Don Letts comp called Dread Meets Punk Rocker up(or down I forget which) town which is a 70’s dub thing which I really like too.

+1 for Lee Scratch Perry. Madder than a box of frogs (but in agood way).

    +1 for Dr Alimantado too.

Saw him at Reading Festival years back, most people were like WTF is going on here, he had a gold lamé suit on and was on some planet no so near by.

Shak 47- thanks for the link.

Dread meets Punk Rockers Uptown is the Don Letts lp- the music he used to play in the Roxy.

The Soul Jazz 100% etc. series is also nice and a good night out if you get the chance. So many good recommendations, so many different genres, Dr.Ali, Horace Andy, Upsetters, John Holt, Eek a Mouse, the list is endless.

    great thread.
