Hi all,
I have relatively little experience with either and have up to £150 to spend on my new toys. They need to be electric, I have seen the ones below – can anyone comment on them or advise on alternatives?
Chainsaw will be used mainly for logs for the woodburner.

Both the chainsaws seem to be up to your intended usage. I’d suggest that you get a saw horse for cutting up your firewood it makes it a lot safer – remember – accidents with chainsaws are seldom trivial!

Thanks Natrix, got a couple of saw horses and the FIL uses a petrol chainsaw regularly – he gave me basic training when I used his last year and I will get more – I don’t want an accident!

Re. Jewson…. I’ve been lloking at Makita drills and what is £110 @ B&Q/Screwfix was £180 @ the Jewson I popped into!

Why electric?

Did your FIL give you the safety equipment to go with the chainsaw training? If not, best cost for some of that too.

hi Tootall, no he didn’t give me any equipment, I have been told just the hat will be OK. Then someone else said I should get trousers (which are expensive) Then I was told that due to the safety cut out and the fact i am only sawing logs downwards not crossways trousers aren’t needed – are you in the trade or do you use these regular and what would you recommend?

I wouldn’t piss about with electric but hey ho.

Nacho – my brother has been a tree surgeon for 20 years and I have worked with him on occasion. He won’t use a saw for anything unless he has trousers, boots and helmet (with visor and ear defenders) on. It doesn’t take much of a slip with any saw to make a mess of flesh, and if you slip or get kickback with a saw it won’t be going in the direction you plan.
Most people who don’t use protective equipment with saws tend to have not seen what they can do to flesh and bone. What your FIL gave you wasn’t training.

Thanks tootall, I know the electric ones are much quieter (so just visor on my helmet, not ear defenders required) My next door neighbours son is a tree surgeon so I might see if I can get some advice from him ref kickback as I spoke to a couple of guys I know with saws who said for cutting down (not sideways) on logs trousers are not essential (I know, until you need them!)
FIL just gave me basic training on using his, not anything official
