  • Reclaiming UK VAT on expensive stuff returned to France based shop?

Need Want some La Sportiva boots in size 45.5, but they only do half sizes on the continent. Found a shop that sells them and can deliver, but unsure what happens if they’re the wrong size and I need to send ’em back.

If the boots cost £300 + VAT, then I pay the shop £300 and presumably the courier around £69 for UK VAT and duty.

But if I subsequently return them, how the heck do I get my £60 quid back?
Or do I actually get stung for a further £57 French VAT when I import them there 🥺😄😁

A French holiday might be the answer – click and collect and eat and drink as it were.

You make a claim from HMRC using the correct form and proof of return and refund. You’ll get your VAT and duty back, but not the handling fee.
