Lidl do a re-proofer spray once a year for about £1.50 that I’ve used for ages with not a single issue. As I understand it it’s only job is to stop the water “sheeting” up on the outside (ie the water no longer beads) – thus helping it keep breathing.

some sprays require that you tumble dry with a little heat to activate the DWR.

others, like Nikwax, don’t.

Apparently you are best to wash these jackets with a liquid detergent to get rid of any grease and body oils, then something soap based to remove all the detergent, and then apply the proofing.
