Slow afternoon so I thought I’d blow the dust off my Pi. Just set up Kodi (OSMC) to have a play with it.

Seems there are many, many plugins for it, some of which do similar things. Save me trial-and-erroring all night, what do people recommend?

I was hoping to get more than I give 😉

1channel seems to be the goto for tv, not really got mine working properly yet

Exodus working well currently. Pubfilm worth a go too.

Am I being dim – I thought this thing was a DLNA header? Or is that a plug-in too?

I don’t because believe as it stands at the moment there is an EU law loophole about streaming web based product rather than downloading files or something… not completely clued up on it.

What I mean is, what’s the difference between Genesis / Exodus / Phoenix?

So what content do you get with these plugins being recommended? Was using mine for iPlayer, but have now bought a BT Youview box, so hasn’t been used since (and the Youview box is a lot better to use).

I use the paraodx build (succeedor to the black box) on a pi 3 and pi 2. Both work fine, the pi3 is a bit quicker through the menus though

Kodi has plenty of plugins in the official repository which are all plug and play however the plugins you allude to are neither official nor legal despite what people say. You should also be cautious when downloading via unofficial repositories as there have been a number of rouge apps put out,there is a lengthy blog post on this on the official Kodi page.

Cougar – Kodi is a media centre, I believe you would be looking for the likes of Plex for a header.

I already have a media header (three in fact, Blu-ray player, Xbox and Chromecast), so it doesn’t really matter. It was more that I thought it did that also.

I’ve got Serviio running on a Windows 10 “server,” which works well. I’ve dabbled with Plex but the way it organises / presents shows seemed a bit insane. I’ve read that it expects a certain format of filename to organise properly – https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200220687-Naming-Series-Season-Based-TV-Shows – which is doable but a bit of an arseache.

@squirrel just read what I posted. Everything has to be added (whether from an official source or not) including http addresses. It’s 100% not plug and play like for example a Chromecast or Apple TV

You can call me inept but I’ve spent 3-4 hours trying to set it up with no luck and I am very familiar with ATV and VPN use as well as various streaming services and p2p

Jamba – try reading what I wrote instead. Nothing you are talking about us a Kodi addon. Kodi addons (as in official addons from the official repository) are all plug and play with no extra setup necessary (barring signin details where needed). You are confusing third party addons with official.

Got mine working, issue was I was using a stream which does work. Worth noting not everything you install may actually work at all. So far streaming (on a 200mps connection) is reasonable, bit stop start and slightly inferior to iPlayer streaming imo. With a bit of research there is a lot of content available,
