    Back on topic..
Maybe I misread the op, but it sounds like they sat down to eat, finished, and then when leaving, jumped the queue for a can of pop?

If so, that’s well out of order.
If they’d just put a can of pop on when/seconds after being served I’d say that’s fine.

Didn’t read any of thread, but queuing etiquette for me is:

Don’t invade my personal space (>1m radius)
Face the front I don’t want to have to avoid looking at you.

    Amazing, now read thread.

There was promotion on a cooking thing in Lidls recently which produced some nice orderly queues:

I can never envision a situation whereby I would be queuing to get in to a shop. Queuing whilst in one is bad enough, but queuing to get in 😱 (unless there’s a **** brilliant rollercoaster in there).

There is no reason to create a tailback twice as long as it needs to be just because someone has arbitrarily decided that the point they move over is the point everyone else should.

This. Most efficient way is to use all the available tarmac. Peeve: **** who pull into the middle of the road to prevent others “zipping”.

What you should have done is beaten your child in the middle of the packed sarnie shop for not deciding what they wanted to drink whilst you were queuing for ages.
