Quantocks anyone?
-
It seems like only recently that the Quantocks was the place to ride but I have a feeling that I might be thinking about a while ago. I always enjoyed riding there and fancy a revisit sometome soon. If I remember correctly Smith’s, Stert and Holcombe are the best descents, Lady’s Edge the best climb. Needless to say I have lost all my maps and .gpx files. Does anyone ride there anymore?
Posted 1 week agoI went in Easter for the first time and I really enjoyed it. My favourite descends were Stert/Somerton combe, Bin Combe and Weacombe.

I’d definitely go back if I could.Ride there often. Its running really well at the moment although some Combes are a bit overgrown. Some of the Triscombe tracks have been rebuilt and the builders have done a brilliant job. And Great wood enduro tracks are very nice. Usually somebody up there to tag along with if you don’t know the area.
Bincombe is worth doing if you haven’t done it but the climb out will involve some time on a road.
If you think Ladies Edge is the best climb then you are either very fit or slightly mad!
Posted 1 week agoLadies edge is the best way out from holford etc. apart from the steep ramp at the end it’s fairly straightforward. Plus it puts you straight into weacombe.
haven’t been up there in a while though, about time for a repeat visit, maybe see if I can get knottie and sharki out for an old timers reunion…
Posted 1 week agoBincombe works OK if you climb out of Holford, straight down Bin then an easy spin back up the road. Smiths on the other hand always seems to be a massive detour for little reward. Frog’s worth a look too, short but sweet.
Posted 1 week agoEven when I was living in Taunton and riding the there 3/4 times a week I barely rode smiths. Burns up massive amounts of gradient in that first bit, then a few good turns and a shitty climb out.
west side of frog Combe and concrete block are my favorites.
Posted 1 week agoIts all still there.
Only the triscombe tracks have changed recently due to felling.
Posted 1 week agoMark from Peep Show would always give you some good advice about it 🤣
Posted 1 week agoI always find the Great Road is the easiest of the many climbs out of Holford. Weacombe is at its best currently, the slight overgrown-ness means it’s nearly back to its former glory. Smith is very overgrown towards the bottom. Bin Combe is as others have said worth the climb, and if you go through the gate and turn right 100m onwards you can wend your way over towards the Foxy Bean for coffee and/or the more “enduro” end of the Hills
Posted 1 week agoSome of the wooded descents have gone from loamy and lovely to rock strewn and unpleasant
Posted 1 week agoDoes weacombe still have that gate 2/3 of the way down?
Posted 1 week agoConcrete block on a tandem us still one of my favourites up there.
Posted 1 week agoThis is sounding great, anyone up for a ride next week?
Posted 1 week agoGreat ride there Thursday , as others have said Smiths meh have you tried Slaughterhouse descent it’s ace ! Ambrose I’ll probably be back down there in a couple of weeks if you’re around?
Posted 1 week agoGreat Woods area is great, a few new(ish) tracks have popped up, from the Foxy Bean the Triscombe/Chimney aide has a couple of new ones and then Johnny Palmers side has a few nice runs as well if you can stomach the climb again!
Posted 1 week agoI could be interested in a STW ride with a guide meetup. I’ve no sense of direction so would not be leading. XC, not crazy gnar core is more my cup of tea.
Please @qwerty if anything occurs.
Posted 1 week agoKnow the area well so can meet up and guide if needed (as long as you don’t make me climb Ladies Edge).
Typical ride usually consists of starting at Lydeard Hill, heading over to Greatwood for a descent, climb back up and do 1 or 2 Combes/Singletrack. Then perhaps a trip to the Foxy bean.
Posted 1 week agoAlfoxton is the least worst climb out of Holford I reckons.
Posted 1 week agoDoes weacombe still have that gate 2/3 of the way down?
Yes just after the soggy bit.
Posted 1 week agoI have a pass for next weekend if anyone is interested in joining me. I’ll be coming over from Carmarthenshire so I won’t be early, possibly about 10- 11ish. Ive managed to find an old map with a bunch of routes on it too. What could possibly go wrong?
Happy to ride alone or with others. Meet at Holford? Crowcombe Park gate CP? Saturday or Sunday, I’ll go with the concensus.
Posted 1 week agoA couple of us are meeting up in Holford on Saturday at the Bowling Green CP, planning for a 10:30 start. I’m coming over from Carmarthenshire, I hope the M5 plays nicely.
And I’ve found an old map with routes on it 🙂
Posted 1 week agoShame, I was watching with interest but I’m in Exmouth on Saturday.
Posted 1 week agoI’m away this weekend but would like to meet up another time.

Fitness isn’t great at the moment due to a lack of riding with a little one. Happy to buy a pint for the inconvenience of having me on the ride though 🙂I’ll be in a blue Berlingo. Green Rail, lairy shirt. Anyone else?
