I ran an 11 speed cassette on a pro 2 evo no bothers.
Sold the wheels, and the chap that’s got them runs 10 speed and he says although he can get the cassette on no probs he can’t get the lock ring to engage and tighten.

I thought that a standard free hub will take 9/10/11 speed, there’s no difference in the width of the cassette, am I right?

    TIA

Isnt there meant to be a spacer to go on at the back of the cassette 😕

Dunno.. never ran 10 speed, can’t remember if there was on on the 11!
The symptoms as described read like the lock ring won’t engage, almost like its sticking out to far. if there was meant to be a spacer that isn’t there id expect the lock ring to tighten but the cassette to be loose.

    I will check though, thanks

Dyna-ti is correct….to use a 10 speed on 11 speed hub you need a 2mm spacer..any lbs will have one for a couple of quid
The 2mm spacer goes on 1st then the cassette

I’ve never had to run a spacer on a pro2 evo hub, I thought that is only required for backwards compatibility on Shimano 11spd road freehubs? Has he missed out a sprocket or one of the spacers between the sprocket?

    For MTB:
    Traditional (HG freehub) 9/10/11spd
    XD for Sram 12spd
    Microspline for Shimano 12spd

There’s deffo a spacer needed behind a 10 speed cassette.

Depends on the freehub, the pro 4 HG freehub and some pro ii HG ones – IIRC distinguished by colour – are road 11 speed compatible and will need a spacer for mountain 9-11 speed HG cassettes.

The other thing it could be is that the lock ring is incorrect.
It will have to be a 10sp lock ring, an 11sp wont work, it wont engage as he describes.

If he does not use a spacer, the sprockets will be loose.
If he uses the wrong lock ring, it wont engage.

I may be speaking from very recent experience and many swears.
