I have a big old colour laser printer that both mrs p.l and I would like to print to independently, but it’s a USB printer not wifi.

What’s the most cost effective route?

Can we access it either by plugging it into he usb port of the BT home hub or buying a print server that either connects to wifi network or Ethernet direct into he hub next to it?

Or plug it into a PC and share it.

Some routers allow USB devices to be shared over the wifi/ethernet or the print server as per cougar.

I should add, I’m not recommending that specific model, rather suggesting the sort of thing which might work.

The other thing is, if it’s a “big old laser,” there might be a network card you can install into the printer itself. Model number would be handy.

According to this, its doable from the HH. I’ve never done this though so YMMV.

Add your printer normally as if its attached to your machine.
Once added, right click on properties then on the ports tab.
Click add port, choose Standard TCP/IP Port, click New Port.
Enter 192.168.1.253* as the IP address, and anything you like as the name.
    Click Custom, then Settings.
Choose LPR as protocol Queue Name: LPT1 check LPR byte counting as enabled, click ok.
    Finish the wizard.

*Assuming you’re using the default IP address ranges on the HH.

    Worth a try though
