    Wow.

True enough, but they’re not all campaign medals.

I’m no Royalist, but the day that Phil the Greek dies will be a sad day indeed.

I agree with wanmankylung on this. The man is an arse and certainly someone I would never wish to meet. My FIL has spoken to him a couple of times and I feel has a misguided admiration for him. It would actually have been funny if the photographer had told him to **** himself.

He’s a colourful character. Offensive, of course, but he always brightens up the proceedings

I’d think he was just an amusing? racist old codger if

    A) the taxpayer hadn’t subsidised his last 6 decades of oppulence and luxury

    B) he hadn’t spawned this clagnut

Give the guy a break. He’s 94, not of great health, and by the sounds of it had had a long day and was pissed off with how long the photographer was taking. I’d have told them to get on with it too, in similar terms!

I’m surprised the pair of them have the energy or inclination to do so much at their age. I admire their commitment.

…and talk of punching a 94 year old in the face – nice, but not entirely surprising 🙄

    Away and boil your head.

He clearly hasn’t been punched in the face enough.

This is quite clearly not talk of punching anyone in the face. IT is merely saying that as a younger man he was not punched in the face enough – which nobody can deny.

No idea what the incident is in question, but I really like the guy.

Willingly sacrificed a lot for his wife too, as I understand.

    He’s ‘reet by me.

I used to work at the check out of a supermarket, serving the elderly of poor health that may have had a bad day. Not once was I told to effing hurry up. This arsehole has acted like this many times over the years. I for one will not shed a tear when we do not hear of his ‘jovial’, ‘colourful’ character.

He said : “Just take the ****ing picture!”

I talk like that all the time. I’m a little surprised that Prince Philip does. I would be highly amused if I heard that the Queen also did.

    I don’t work in a supermarket.

EDIT : Royal photographers have generally struck me as tossers.

Most of us will get irritated by someone enough to swear at them during our life. My ageing relatives are all rather less courteous than when they were younger and that’s without the pressure of constant scrutiny.

He is 94 years old and has mostly lived a life of service to the country and his wife. He drops the odd clanger but a brief Internet search reveals many of the worthy things he’s invested his time in – doe award, technology and industry, patronage of voluntary organisations etc etc

I don’t like all he says and does but then I don’t expect many people I know like all I say and do either 🙂

Surely the whole point of being old is that you get to be sweary and grumpy and offensive?

If not then I may as well end it all now

ernie, are you saying you have no opinion of supermarket cashiers, however royal photographers are tossers. What circles do you socialise in?

Well I occasionally socialise with tossers but never with royal photographers. HTH

I never thought I’d make excuses for Prince Philip, but, if I was 94, not retired, and felt like I was being kept waiting, I’d be ****ed off too. I’ve no time for the horrible fud but this is nowt.

Was it a royal photographer, or a regular one? As above, all royal journalists can **** off too.

My wife said exactly the same thing to me about ten minutes before we tied the knot. I wish I had realised at that moment that the mask had just slipped and given me a glimpse of the next 18 years of rudeness and insults.

I couldn’t help but notice that the other, similarly elderly gents sitting for the photograph didn’t lose their temper and swear at the photographer.

Perhaps their sacrifice and trauma, so that Philip could live a life of unrivaled opulence, luxury and comfort has given them a more relaxed perspective.

I saw a report suggesting that he had already been shipped off to West Yorkshire that morning to watch coppers practising having a scrap before the engagement at Buck House.

I like Phil, but at 94, perhaps it’s time to cut back on his engagements a bit, and give the curmudgeonly old bastard a rest.

I don’t particularly like the bloke but a) this is funny and exactly what my dad would have said in the circumstances b) he saw active service on the second world war was in harms way quite a lot and aquited himself well.

He had a golden period early on in his carreer with some gems.
He told a group of British students during a 1986 state visit to China that they would become ‘slitty-eyed’ if they remained in the country any longer and in 2002 while touring a Racal factory near Edinburgh he said a fuse box was so crude it “looked as though it had been put in by an Indian”. 🙂
