  • Presta valves – snapping cores?

Getting ready for a spin this morning Ms S managed to snap both inner cores on the Presta valves of her road bike.

Both were the original OEM Bonty tubes on her newish Trek.
    Bad batch, incompetence or sabotage?

I’m going for incompetence, as she usually has the mechanical sympathy of a hungover wookie, but would be interested to hear if anyone else has had the same problem.

Presta valve + mini pump + one small slip = snapped core.

Its a shit, weak design. When you have been riding for hours, you get a puncture and you only have a mini pump, a valve that is easily snapped is an accident waiting to happen.

People snap cores by twisting the pump off; the correct action is a karate chop to the pump, gently.

    Track pump.

I’m favouring the sabotage theory now.
She wanted to go house hunting instead.

It’s mere incompetence. It seems there’s a few gorilla-fisted members on this forum who can’t seem to cope with them.

You needs the hands of a lover, not a fighter……

Onion, it was Ms Spanner, not myself. 🙂

She does have the hands of a lover:
Really must report that to the police one of these days…..

Seriously, she’s been using Presta valves for about 40 years – we’ve both had the odd one snap, but two, one right after the other?

Just seemed a bit odd really.
