Charles Dance as Vetinari. They got it right in Going Postal…

Totally. In fact they got most of the casting pretty spot on in Going Postal.
Almost makes up for the cluster **** that was Hogfather.

Oh FFS! are you casting Vetinari or a substitute teacher, sitting in a vw beatle sobbing after his first day on the job?

He’s playing Moist, so it goes to Charles Dance.

    Or Michael Sheen.

In my dream TP adaptation its Phillip Glenister from Life on Mars as Vimes

McKenzie Crook as Nobby is inspired, then having played the Discworld PC game in my youth I can’t see past Eric Idle as Rincewind

You’ve presumably never watched Jessica Jones?

Or Des, which should be a thread in itself.

I can see Stephen Merchant as Death. Rhys Darby and Jermaine Clements have to fit in somewhere, but I’ve not read a DW novel for years.

Tim Macinerney and Rowan Atkinson surely for some of the wizards?

Struggling for Magrat though, keep coming back to Freya Mavor but not sure it is right.

Emma Chambers (Alice in The Vicar of Dibley) for Magrat.

    Detritus is a hard one.

If only we knew someone with experience of playing a reformed troll.

    🤣

    Detritus, maybe Dave Bautista?

Ooh, Peter Dinklage for Cheery? And Warwick Davies for the Low King?

Yup…..JonEdwards…… Pete Postlethwaite was definitely meant to play Vimes.

You can clearly see him in “Where’s my cow?”

    Vimes

Evanna Lynch for Magrat maybe (Although potter connection obviously). Miriam Margoyles and Maggie Smith are perfect as Ogg and Granny though. And Serkis / Henry Cavill for Greebo in cat / human ish form.

It has to be someone you could imagine moving efficiently down a dark passage full of booby traps, knowing exactly where to step, where to pivot, spin or duck, and not end it with a prat fall.

Have you seen Atkinson playing Magrait? No pratfalls there, but quiet deliberation, although, while there are moments where Atkinson/Magrait shows a cold, steely side, he never seems like he could be an assassin. Alan Rickman has always been my first thought, but it’s close to being typecasting!
I always thought that the actor Geoffrey Bayldon would be good as Rincewind, except for the sad fact he was dead.

It might be typecasting, but King Louie or Clyde to play the librarian.

Christopher Walken as King Louie as the Librarian.

Am trying to fit Mrs Doyle of Father Ted fame into a Nanny Ogg shaped hole.

    Tea
    General ‘old lady’ amiability
Hints of ‘colourful’ childhood (Mrs Doyle starting an anecdote about ‘my husband’ before instantly clamming up 😀 ).

Not saying it’s perfect, but there’s something in it…

Yes but who would you cast for Angua?

Played this game before and this is the one that never gets answered in a convincing manner.

    Angus? Erin Moriarty.

Angua (as most Pratchet characters are actually) is a charcater arc, almost an american teen movie character nerd to beauty. She starts of a bit shy, unsure of herself not really coping with her split life, possibly a bit dishevelled due to her changes. Becoming a confident and assertive and in control of her werewolf side.

A more athletic Emma Watson? an Alien(s) era Sigourney Weaver?

    Fixed that for you.

Felicia Day for Angua. Probably helps she is a monumental nerd so would love playing a Pratchett character.

Mrs Doyle (Pauline McLynn) should be Mrs (Evadne) Cake!

“Mrs Cake? What is a Mrs Cake?”
“You have … ghastly Things from the Dungeon Dimensions and things, yes? Terrible hazards of your ungodly profession?” said the Chief Priest.
    “Yes.”
“We have someone called Mrs Cake.”

Haha, I was avoiding the subject of Angua, reminds me of a passage from The Light Fantastic regarding Herrena the Henna Haired Harridan:

“Now, there is a tendency at a point like this to look over one’s shoulder at the cover artist and start going on at length about leather, tight boots and naked blades.
Words like ‘full’, ‘round’ and even ‘pert’ creep into the narrative, until the writer has to go and have a cold shower and a lie down.”

There do seem to be a lot of dead people or younger versions that we want to be doing these roles.
Alan Rickman’s agent must be missing all the work that could be rolling his way.

And Mrs Doyle is the wrong shape to be Mrs Cake.

Mark Gatiss would make a decent Vetinari. Benedict Cumberbatch could probably also make a decent go of it.
