    Install woodburner then as Jambo.

May have to resort to non-electricity based recreation.

Will fracking help? I’ll do a bit of that too.

Have also got a generator and some leisure batteries & inverter just in case I need to get on to the STW forum in an emergency.

Candles, lamps with spare batteries, stove with spare cylinders for heating food and boiling water. Standby battery and solar charger for electronics. Not enough space for a standby generator though a kindly neighbour has one. That’s for the short term. Were we to suffer widespread interruption of supplies for days then it would get very nasty.

Simple, every office / apartment in Nigeria has one of these:

Nigeria…. your gen is your most valued possession. The reason why there’s been zero investment in the public electricity supply over the years is that too many ministers are getting fat off the kickbacks they receive for the importation of gensets.

To distribute power you need a network and they havent really looked after this very well, the transformer at my hotel has bare 11kv bus bars, we are currently out here installing gas engines on Private independent power plants, there also some big turbine stations being built, I have heard they used to export power out to Ghana and Cameroon were the networks were functionable.

Honda backup generator with 15-20 hours fuel stored. Only really need it for hot showers and keeping the freezer frozen.

Heating can be taken care of with the wood burners. Enough wood stored for 2 winters so we should be ok……

Better stock up on single malt and baked beans though. Looks like we only have a few days supply currently 😆

Was going off the idea but maybe I should install solar panels. Article says major users – I ain’t one of those so will be fine….

41 years ago I remember being taken shopping in a Woolworths lit by paraffin lamps and using mechanical cash registers. Life went on as normal. Now with electronic payment and automatic doors there have been incidences of stores shutting due to a temporary local power cut.

It was a department store. You’re making me feel very old… Probably because I am old enough to remember the 70s power cuts. The first few were a novelty, and then the novelty wore off…

    willard – bullet proof ones.

i mind we had a powercut one new years eve i worked on the bar back home.

we just got candles out , a cash float and did the maths manually and the band kept playing their instruments.

a good night was had by all

    Frankly, i blame the Greens!

When asked “do you want nuclear power” they all shouted “NO”.

Unfortunately, they didn’t actually wait to hear the rest of the question which was “OR electricity blackouts, lawlessness and resulting zombie apocalypse”

I have an incredibly acute blue sky thinking suggestion.

it’s going to be a bit of a shock for most people and I don’t suppose it’s going to gain a huge amount of traction but here goes anyway.

Could we, you know, use less electricity?

Nah sorry, what a silly suggestion. Expecting people to contribute towards their own well being. Forget I asked.

That would be like asking people to use their cars less and walk, stupid boy.

All part of the new Green Conservatives. They’re reducing benefits to zero, which will mean that the poor can no longer afford any fuel (or food), so gas and electric consumption will fall, hence reducing our CO2 usage. There will be a slight blib caused by their decomposing bodies, but once we’re over that, it’s Green all the way!

Can we burn the bodies for fuel?

I assume they’ll be full of chip fat
