Lovely pictures, really cheered me up seeing all those characters although wallop and mrwhyte win a special mention for making me laugh 😆

Thinking back we were very lucky to get Mel on the rehoming day as she was very popular, had a bit of a list for the carers to work through! We ‘won’ as we could take her and her sister together, they didn’t want to separate them as they had both been through a traumatic time being in a house with a dog that used them as soft toys. Mel was always scared of any sudden movements but otherwise was lovely, everyone said she was stunning. She even put up with my mum getting a dog who Mel has trained to the point he thinks he’s a cat 😯 The pair of them were our first moggies after having had pure colorpoints all my life so we were not used to cats living more than 8-10 years.

Perhaps you could persuade your dad to rescue a senior cat? They are always the hardest to get adopted.

We’ve already suggested this but he dismissed it out of hand. We’ll try again in a few weeks time when he starts to pine for a cat again, he usually lasts 6 weeks tops.

You know most rescues would probably be delighted if you call it “fostering” and agree that the cat goes back if and when it’s necessary.

Cats really don’t care BTW. They like humans in general, not specific people. And they easily adapt to a new territory in a fairly short time.

I’m sure this will strike a chord with most cat ‘owners’*….

Sorry to hear about your loss op. 17 years is a good run console yourself with the thought Mel had a great life.

Ours isn’t the sharpest tool in the box but it’s adorable

This is Tinkerbell aka Stinkerbell. She behaves more like a dog than a cat and enjoys having her belly rubbed. She farts worse than a dog and tries to steal food off your plate.

She’s getting an old lady now (13) so spends 90% of her day in bed and generally doesn’t get up till about 4 in the afternoon for a little stroll in the garden to s**t in the newest flowers that have been planted then returns to bed.

@binners – ours has four modes of early morning attack:

    Walking over you and shouting.
Doing the paddling thing with the front paws
Paw with claws extended into whatever flesh is exposed
    Pulling the duvet off you

He hasn’t (yet) moved onto full assault with bits of wood.

The cat’s “voice” in that video had my cat all alert and suspicious. I didn’t think it was that realistic but she must have thought otherwise.

How about a little background on our cats names?
Mines is Tiki. I struggled for weeks for a name that fitted her. Then one day I smelt burning hair and found her smoldering away having climbed over a lit candle. I told her she was lucky I smelled it ‘cos she could’ve gone up like a tiki torch. It stuck.

Mack derived from “Mackerel Tabby”. His brother’s called Pepper as in “Black Pepper” ‘coz he’s black.

After considering Mr Snuffles/Mittens/Tigger etc I decided to call ours Shimano although I also liked Interceptor.

This is a rather chilled out Mushroom. She’s 18.

She’s not always so mellow. If vexed, she hisses like a steam locomotive.

Ada and Babbage – named after Ada Lovelace ( not a porn star! ) and Charles Babbage. Just because Bengals are smart.

Despite their names celebrating British genius, my cats are Cloggies.

This is Meatball. She is 7, very friendly and chilled and a bit of a Princess.

Her major pain in the arse is Mr Helen* who chases her around a lot as he is only a wee kitten (6 months old). He is greedy, a **** and totally adorable.

Groovy short for Grooverider. One of 4 kittens that a pregnant stray gifted me and my housemate at the time. We named them all after d and b dj’s as weren’t really planning on keeping them but Groovy won us over with his affectionate personality and the others were rehomed.

He’s ten now and it hurts when he jumps up for a cuddle as he weighs 7.6kg (not fat) Note he’s too big for laps really…

Sorry to hear about Mel, they will be dust in the room when Jester (AKA the Fat Lad) and Sparky (his normal sized sister) pop their paws.
Simon’s Cat wake up always makes me smile, Jester has got a new (and very effective) means of waking me up….licking an exposed armpit. There really is nothing like the rasp of a feline tongue over your armpit to make you wake up in a hurry.

Sorry to hear about your cat Milky, always a sad occasion.

Gizmo AKA Nozzer – a genuinely awesome cat who would accompany us for walks wherever we went, given half the chance. We often had to sneak out before he could follow. Also a furball, dreadlock and hair shedding nightmare but sadly no longer with us

The current feline overlord – Lottie AKA Stumpy – rescue cat with unusually short legs. Likes to sleep in the laundry basket, will play fetch with kids socks or plastic bottle tops. Extremely talkative.

Mishka. Not long for this world sadly, though the pills she’s on at the moment (steroids and appetite stimulators) are having quite the effect.

Here’s a couple of pics of my cat, Luna (British blue & short hair moggy).

She sleeps when we do and doesn’t like to get woken up:
