Do they exist? Can you name any? We are struggling to think of a single one but there must be some out there?

Brian Blessed's Dad was a miner. Not sure if he's just well spoken or "posh" though. RP is the VW Golf of accents 😆

There are a few wannabee posh Geordies (the worst type) in Beadnell – aka North Jesmond.

Robert Lindsay's from Ilkeston too if I recall correctly. Not that you'd guess.

I suspect we'll have someone from Pity Me posting up about "the real north" in a few minutes.

And yes, Pity Me is a real place.

lol @ Carbon it's true but sadly Beadnell is full of Southerners trying to be Northumbrian.

Met some recently at a garden party of some posh friends of ours, gentlemen farmers from yorkshire somewhere or other, posh and rich. However I think posh as a strata is seperate from a northern or southern identitity as they're posh/gentry first northern/southern second.

why would a somebody from the south want to be northern?
is it the blue and white synthetic sportswear and breathing through your mouth that's so attractive?

Its bloody rediculous up there nowadays….some of my "friends" from Warkworth have accents that would put an Etonian to shame with. FFS your bloody Northumbrians – I cana bide it.

Compared to Londoners we all are. Just look at Eastenders for proof, no-one has a washing machine there, whereas in Corrie and Emmerdale launderettes dont exist.

Parky isn't a northerner any more – just like anyone who moves south, he's dead to us now.

And if by posh you mean tasteless, pretentious, ostentatious displays of ill gotten wealth, we do have Cheshire.

However, if you mean the true wealth only obtainable by being born and raised in the most beautiful part of the United Kingdom, well it's just our birthright and we don't really like to go on about it…… 😀

All I know about Cheshire I learned from Hollyoaks….are there really no people with scouse accents? For many years I thought cheshire was somewhere near london.

In just squeezes into the North but I was talking about the Beadnell types, there may be areas around there though.

It's true though greyman, check the property prices out compared to just going a few miles either way.

drac – were you caled to the place that cant be mentioned yesterday?

Air ambulance, normal one and a Paramedic were there for one of the trail builders who broke his leg.

One of the poshest people I have ever met (remembering I have had the benefit of a public school education), was a lady I worked with who was from Northumberland.

Mind you, she and her husband did own about half of it.

(The north, especially the old money of Cheshire and Yorkshire, has its fair share of posh.)

Duke of Westminster is quite posh.

Or, Harrow Gate as some like to pronounce it.

    What's the other way then?

Everyone in the North who doesn't live there pronounces it "aragit".

Apart from the Duchess of Devonshire, who has a lovely little misunderstood German chap to do it for her.
