Not been yet, but the Shibden Mill inn is next in our list, after lots of recommendations.

    Blue Lion West Witton (Dales)

Or get a package / offer at Rudding Park near Harrogate and enjoy the food and spa.

Lion Inn at Blakey Ridge is hearty pub grub rather than gastro, but the location is completely stunning.

2h from brum is a tall order. For our honeymoon – and repeat for 25th anniversary – we went to the west highlands, you’re spoilt for choice there. Any chance of stretching the holiday to justify a longer drive?

Cottage in the Wood. Superb and totally underrated IMO. It is starred too. On the road up to Whinlatter

Welcome to the Cottage in the Wood

I was really impressed with the Borrowdale Gates. Lovely relaxed vibe and superb food.

Never been but its next on my list is the Haweswater Hotel. An old Art Deco place that looks stunning. Miles from anywhere but riding and walking from the doorstep is par excellence.

Honourable Mention goes to Lake Vyrnwy Hotel and Spa. Lake view rooms have probably the best view to wake up to in Wales. Food and service absolutely top notch. Highly recommended.
