Then it’s got to be cool absorbent cotton and the best place for cotton socks is good old M&S.

Sportpursuit have Isobaa merino socks on offer at the moment (£12-20 for a 3-pack), they say delivery by Christmas but not sure I’d totally trust that (my Sportpursuit orders sometimes take a couple of weeks to arrive).

Other than that I mostly buy socks from TKMaxx, they usually have a good selection inc. bamboo and merino (usually blended though).

Smartwool socks – ranging from thick to thin – all wash brilliantly, without “matting”.

On One’s socks are super comfy but don’t last long.

I recently got a pair of these. They’re really well made and very premium if you’re buying xmas presents (they have a shop in Covent Garden so that’s where your money is going…)

I really like the injinji socks but a lot of people think the toe sock thing is freaky.

Myself and the OH just purchased a bunch of Stance socks off Sportspursuit. They are incredibly comfy, plus some nice designs.
