  • Pimp my ride (please) – like KCNC but for road bits?

Afternoon all, I’m looking to put together a cyclocross build with lighter stem/ seatpost and compact drops (etc) than I am using currently. Is there anybody out there that does reasonably light and not silly priced finishing kit for road/cx use similar to KCNC do for mtb?

Basically I’m looking for reasonable value and reasonably light kit, but can only seem to find fairly heavy/ mediocre stuff or super expensive bling. Any ideas of reliably light and good value sources?

    Cheers!

Running these on my cx bike and road bike you have to pay £60+ for anything lighter

The graphics come off easily with acetone

These bars are on my cx bike and take a hammering

Seatpost on road bike(£45-£50) offer secures .. Again really light/well made no issue

Cheers for the suggestions plus one. I especially love the massive “climax” logo on the seatpost. Any other suggestions anyone?

Why not use a KCNC seatpost and stem anyway?

Just leaves you needing a bar. Bontrager Race Lites are relatively light and well priced, or buy from China?

I may well do, but obviously as you say they don’t seem to do drops. That and finding somewhere with the sizes I’m after in stock (although I’m not averse to 2nd hand). Thanks for the suggestion of the Bonty bars though, I will check them out too. My only reservation about chinese carbon is buying generic without a recommendation (like plus one’s) so any specific examples of sellers to use/ avoid are handy.

I bought mine from links(sellers)posted above and no issues 🙂

^ Yup – they look good (with added acetone budget) so thanks for the suggestion. Other thing about buying drop bars from the far east is I’m sometimes fussy about the shape of the drops so would like to see them in the flesh before buying.

The “climax” stuff can be bought without decals too so it is worth inquiring with the sellers. KCNC stems and Climax posts are more than solid and reliable so no worries there.

The only other super light bars that are pricey but not insanely priced would be some of the 3T, Ritchey, Engage or even Thomson which are still ~EUR200 and ~200g. Not sure it is worth EUR130 more to save the 35g over some of the Ritchey and 3T alu bars though but I guess it depends on the shapes you prefer as much as anything… KCNC have some scandium alloy bars for £67 and 210g on Clee Cycles too

Yes bars are very personal I chose the hylix based on reach/drop being very close to what they replaced (deda rhm11) my fave bar shape with aero tops and these feel identical 🙂

Sure most compact bars are very close in reach/drop etc ?

I have about 15 pairs of kcnc bars if you have any specific requirements. Email if you have anything in mind.

    Or not
http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/HBGUADH/guizzo-carbon-anatomic-drop-handlebars 200 grams apparently, lighter than those above.

OP doesn’t mention sizes so may not be what he’s after.

Ritchey c260 stem can be picked up for about fifty quid, just over a hundred grams and very nice.

Thanks for the suggestions and links everyone. I’ll trawl through the various options, but reckon I should be pretty well covered for stems and seatposts within budget from the ideas above, and will have a look at the shape of the various bar suggestions for ones with a good curve and reach combo.

@ on and on – do you suffer some sort of bar hoarding fetish? or are you “in the trade”?

    Lol, neither 🙂

A few years ago I purchased a bunch of stock from an online seller who closed up.
I sold most things sutch as posts etc on eBay but never got around to listing the 3 boxes of bars

I used a few on my bikes but loads remain.
If your anywhere near Hampshire, feel free to pop over for a mooch.

@ on and on – about 8 hours away, so a little too far sadly. Might drop you a mail though, thanks.
