A verbal error that those of us who cycle and canoe are prone to is mixing up ‘pedalling’ and ‘paddling’.

    Trolling/Trawling

Actually the same thing. Trolling is another word for a type of trawling and trolling in the internet sense refers to catching fish

Not exactly. Trawling is drawing a net through the water, trolling is drawing lines through the water.

Front forks, frame set, ride out, swap out.

Frame set or more correctly frameset is frame plus forks.
Ride out is the opposite to turbo trainer.

I am apparently just trying to get out of tidying up

See also wash(ing) up, dry(ing) up.

I know this, it seems many people don’t and just use it to mean frame. Which leads to avoidable confusion in the rigid/gravel/road world and is just wrong in the regular MTB world.

Also all full sus bikes have a swinging fork rear not a swinging arm. Swinging arm is one sided.

Swing-arm? Been used as a description for two-sided motorcycle rear suspension set-ups for years, I think you’re just being needlessly pedantic in a way that’s actually confusing.

‘Descend down,’ as featured repeatedly on Eurosport cycling commentary, does my head in. You’re hardly going to descend up are you?

At least nanometres are a unit of something – I can’t get my head round what Kelvin-grammes would measure.

Not so much pedantic as wrong.

‘A swingarm, or “swinging arm” (UK), originally known as a swing fork or pivoted fork, is a single or double sided mechanical device…’

Mine is training the dog to drop its ball by saying ‘OUT’.

You know, instead of say….. Drop? 🙄

What am I supposed to say to the dog when I want him out of the room?

She also shouts ‘DEAD’ at him to train him to lie down.
Sounds a bit sinister to me. Not keen.

She could of course use the popular phrase for getting dogs to lie down as in…… Lie down?

    Nah, DEAD it is…

How to apply for a pedlar’s certificate
You need a pedlar’s certificate if you sell door to door.

The certificate lets you sell throughout the UK. You must trade on foot and carry your goods with you (you can use something like a small trolley).

Any one of you utter cretins who starts your posts with “so” can burn in hell with people who say “the bike shop told myself it was broken”.

Otherwise, say what you want clearly and in nice, properly punctuated, sentences and we’ll get along fine.

I’ve mentioned this before and it was pointed out that I was wrong…

but when people say they have 2 choices (curry or pizza), surely this is one choice with 2 options?

What about draw instead of drawer? e.g. Top draw. Knicker draw. Sock draw. 😊

Or “Chester Drawers” in a Gumtree advert I saw once. Presumably they were made in Chester.

‘Peddle’ – the unreleased album by Pink Floyd. The fourth and final one in the ‘eddle’series? Abandoned I believe, because Roger and Dave could not agree on how they would pronounce the preceding album title of ‘Oeddle’.

When I worked in the garage one of my colleagues called me a **** ****.
I had great joy in telling him that was an oxymoron.
He had no idea what an oxymoron was.
I also had to explain that the stones aren’t singing about a pilot in Sympathy For The Devil.
Edit..the blanked words rhyme with tanker and bucking.

I peddle my goods as a pedlar and often peddle my bike to get home.

I guess this makes me a peddling peddler and a peddling pedlar.

In the picture you see peddlers in the street passing a peddling pedlar peddling in the street.

‘The bicycle we have dreamt of peddling’

Leicester City v Napoli (20:00 BST)

Napoli have been in the Champions League in four of the previous five seasons.

But boss Luciano Spalletti, who replaced Gennaro Gattuso in the summer, says they will respect the Europa League.

“It is the bicycle we have dreamt of peddling,” he said.

Link here. Honestly though, I would expect a BBC journo to recognise the difference. Unless the words were actually written by the Napoli coach in which case he has a pretty good command of English – certainly better than my Italian.

I feel we’re being lead awry now.

Interestingly (or perhaps very much not) my primary school aged kids are being taught English in far more detail than I was in the ’80s. My youngest son will identify and describe grammar in ways i’ve never heard, despite his Mum regularly referring to Xam in the morning or Xpm at night.

“It is the bicycle we have dreamt of peddling,” he said.

Isn’t her just saying that it is a source of merchandise that they have dreamt of selling on the streets?

    Seems correct to me
