My Sony Vaio has lost its sound – I did drop it once. Under control panel there is no sound output device listed. Headphones don’t work either.

Curiously, when booting up I do get the Intel ditty, and a ‘welcome to new hardware wizard’ window which leads nowhere though.

    Is this fixable?

Do the sound drivers need re-installing ?

Perhaps thats the new hardware it has found ?

I don’t have the disc and the hardware screen doesn’t show the name of equipment for me to search the web for.

There are a few sites that can scan your PC’s hardware to identify what sound spec you have….just do a search..

Then once you have identified the sound hardware just download and re-install the drivers.

Or just remove the side panel on the tower and have a look inside. But be aware of warranty, as it can be voided by removing a panel.

If you are using Windows, there is the facility to show a list of hardware installed.
