Looking at getting one of these (it's getting cold and dark on this side of the world) one option seems to be SSC and the other Cree but what's what? or doesn't it matter

    Thanking you

Can you link to some examples?

SSC make the P7 LED (emitter).

I think Cree make a P7 torch, which uses a different LED. At least this is what I've seen on ebay.

Ah, I reckon it's just a typo or something. The important bit states that they're both SSC P7, C-BIN. So pretty near identical. I don't think Cree actually make the P7 LED, it's just SSC, though I may be wrong.

My understanding is Seoul make the p7 led and cree an MCE – they are very similar in that they are 4 die leds but the cree mce the dies are individually connected wheras the P7 they are not.

so the seoul P7 must have the 4 dies in parallel meaning it requires a 3.5 volt 2.8 amp supply whereas the cree MCE can be wired in parallel or series – giving the choice of 3.5 v / 2.8 amp or 14 v / .7 amp

Maximum output from them is the same.

I built my own light using an MCE cree as I wanted to run at 0.7 amp at 14 volt

As above Cree don't make P7's

I've got a Cree MCE based light and it's excellent – not that much of a thrower (distance) but a very good flood of light.

Cree make the LED's and sell them to Seoul who do their own thing with them, and the MCE is now Cree's copy of the P7.

Either way, the 5-mode SKU12060 torch from P7 is a cheap way of getting some decent light for night riding.
