    It’s a four/five hour drive..

Nantes is only an hour from the Island..

    Rennes is about halfway..

We stopped in Saumur on our way to Ile de Re last summer. It was nice and the Huttopia site at the top of the hill has some pitches with a really lovely view over the Loire.

On the way back we just did the drive in one go. Only about 5 hours.

Chateaubriant is very nice. Don’t choose Redon.

For hotels, the old town in Rennes centre is nice. Nantes centre good too but don’t park in the main pay and display car park there overnight as I did once, turns into a fish market at weekends. Cost me 150 euros and 3 hours to get the van out of the pound after they removed it so not a cheap overnight stay that time….

We stayed here last year. It’s near Angers. Amazing tree-houses in a wood next to a Chateau.

It’s 550k at least according to Google maps.
As a kid it was always Vitré or Chateaubriant that we stayed at.
    Vitré is very nice.

    +1 Saumur Huttopia campsite

It’s in a lovely location and only about 10km ride into town (mostly flat).

Ile d’Olern (cherbourg 550km) and Ile de Re are not the same place – 550km is correct

thanks for handy stop over tips – don’t fancy that drive in one go !
