I fancy one of the new Sequoias, the Elite model. It’s a lovely bit of kit (I’ve seen one already) but there’s a couple of little details I’m not sure about

What else is there that’s similar?

So steel frame, minimum 40mm tyres but not 29+, Shimano groupset, flared bars, screw fit BB, good looking…?
I’d probably be riding it off road a fair bit, just general gravely stuff.

Last years Norco Search S-series. Steel frame&fork, discs, Sora, threaded BB, replaceable mech hanger, am currently running 35c with bags of clearance. Unfortunately Norco stopped making them this year but absolute bargain compared to last years AWOL. Sorry it doesnt help much though!

    What he said! ^

I’ve got an AWOL and a Norco Indie Drop (older version of the Search), both great bikes – what is you don’t like about the Sequoia?

Just odds and sods. Weird FSA chainset and not much choice of replacement, weird bars (that I like) that might be hard to get a wider set of. Cassette only available from Sun Race or SRAM. Decent rims on plain gauge spokes and probably cheap hubs.

I was just wondering before I order one, don’t wanna miss out! 🙂

The chainset is actually one of the things I like the look of, there’ll probably be more choices in “sub-compact” from other brands as these sorts of bikes get more popular. The wheels on my AWOL seemed pretty good, had the front rebuilt around a Shimano Dyno hub, but the back wheel has been fine for 2000km+ of riding.

Only thing that bugs me is the 12mm front axle as it limits you to using a SON dyno hub but that may change too. Anyway, it’s not different enough from my other 2 bikes to make me buy one just yet!

I’ve sort of rejected a Sequoia.

My main gripe being the lack of any spacers. So all the adjustment is via stem swapping, or inverting.

But I like the gearing on the cheaper one. 32-48 chainset and 36,12 cassette makes sense for me feeble spiny legs.

Out of interest how do you this being better the Croix de Fer. Tyre clearance?

Don’t know whether this takes 40mm tyres but I like the look of this. Its off my list due to cycle to work constraints

Oh and this which takes 40mm tyres for sure

    Don’t know about threaded BBs

Oops but they are SRAM sorry. I’ll leave them for reference. The Sutra LTD can be bought frame only

Don’t know about tyres clearance on this but it ticks other boxes

The top of this list may be helpful, there’s also the Finna Landscape, Marin 4 Corners, Salsa Vaya, Genesis Vagabond? Personally I like those Kona’s and the Bombtrack but would stick sram 2×10 kit on a bike like this.

I’d guess that is just the images on the Spesh website to make the bikes look cool. There’s a few pics on Google showing spacers on real world bikes:

Fyi the rove takes a 700×40 nano no issues. Even managed to get guards in there as well !

Definitely clearance for 38s so you would need to check about 40s.

Sue was considering a Sequoia Elite but is going for an AWOL instead, if it fits.

The 2017 base model has a very sensible spec and isn’t that heavy, about 26lb.
Enough of a saving to add some nice bits and get it powder coated too.

    Loving my Kona Sutra LTD!

Threaded BB, fixings to add a front mech if you feel the need (I haven’t, yet), plenty of clearance, lovely colour. Not Shinano but the SRAM stuff feels fine. It’s an ace bike to ride … Although I sometimes wonder if I should’ve got the Roadhouse, the Sutra feels bombproof and perfectly chuckable despite the extra weight.

I think I’ve bent my mech hanger though, but that was just careless. (I don’t really get why a steel frame needs a detachable alu hanger…)

I might have got a Sequoia, they announced it the day after I got my Kona…

So anyway. I’ve got a Sequoia Elite. It’s sitting in the stand next to me, one of the first into the UK
It won’t be finished until tomorrow (I’m picky, I’m not fitting the Jagwire outers it came with) but it’s a nice piece of kit to look at.

Out the box it’s got 25mm of spacers fitted.

    Will do.
It seems I’m possibly the only owner in the UK so far. That em only just landed at Specialized and they’ve only put my size in the B2B so far, presumably so they could ship one to me. 🙂

I was just thinking of phoning the Specialized concept store and asking if they were here yet. I’ll give them another week?

    Thanks for the spacers imfo’

Another Sequoia Elite owner over here. Well, it should be in my grubby palms on the 26th Sept…
