- Orange Five AM ideas? PIcs would be awesome! :D
Hi I have a 2012 Five am The 36mm forks are very good but possibly a little over kill i wouldn’t say there better than the 34s i know lads much more capable than me using 32s and 34s I just thought im only going to do it once so upgraded everything 😀Posted 4 years ago
Ive had a few 5’s over the years and currently have a 2013 a.m. I have to say that the 140/140 is a better bike than the 160/140. It climbed better and was faster everywhere except steeper dh’s. The 5 is a very strong bike but you pay for this with a fairly heavy weight (not weighed it but guessing 32/33 lbs). If I was to choose again I’d have an Enduro as it was much more capable, both xc and dh and lighter ! Overall I like the 5 a.m but be prepared to lug it around til the slopes come, its strength is its strength but it comes at a price.Posted 4 years agodaver27Member
thats a bit a falsity though legend, thats an Enduro EVO, so bolt through back end, Coil springs etc, its a fair whack heavier than a normal Enduro.
back onto topic, the 34’s are an awesome fork, as are the 36’s, both really capable, 36 only really needed if you are planning on going to the alps as the extra 1/2lb in weight over the 34’s goes into a stronger chassisPosted 4 years agomunrobikerMember
I have a custom built Five with Lyriks. It’s great to ride- I prefer the extra travel up front. Mine’s definitely erring on the beefy side of a Five build and I use it for big mountain stuff regularly.
Mine is built with coil Lyriks, Hope hubs on Stans Flow, Pro Vanderham bars/stem, Shimano DX spds and a Reverb. I’d suspect it weighs 32lbs.
I love how it rides, but I’m going to get a new one next year that’ll be built lighter- new Rockshox Pikes (so still 160), Race Face SixC cranks and bars, Stans Arch rims. I’m also going to go back to Schwalbe tyres rather than High Roller LUSTS. Hopefully get it below 30lb and then I’ll be very happy and maybe get rid of the race bike.
I have ridden mine with 140mm Pikes and prefer it at 160, though a travel adjust fork may be helpful.

munrobiker – Your bike looks and sounds awesome, iv considered lyriks and i do love them. Would the new Pikes 160 be similar to the lyriks? Im quite light weight so im heading towards a either a fox 34 or a similar rock shox i think. Just need to man up and make a decision!Posted 4 years ago
