Remember the halcyon days of a few hours back, where I speculated that Mark et all might be reluctant to post much because people line up to stick the boot in every time he does? This place is a ****ing bear pit at times and that’s totally within your control.

What was asked for was an explanation of the purpose of the identification of users subscription status, and the response we got was a nondescript “its about a bigger thing”.

You got a ‘nondescript’ answer because it’s not my place to announce site plans ahead of STW doing so officially. Do you watch film teaser trailers and then write angry letters to DC Films demanding that they immediately send you the script for the next Batman movie along with their game plan for the next five years? Get a sense of perspective, I was trying to provide a service (that I didn’t need to do) in telling you what I did. Crap like this makes me wonder why I ever bother.

Actually, you know what? I’ve had like ten hours sleep cumulatively since the weekend, I’m ratty and broken and basically a dead man walking. I’m probably not thinking straight so I’m stepping away from the forum for tonight before I say something I’ll regret in the morning.

Probably a good thing, because you aimed your last response at me, whereby I was speaking in general terms.   I couldn’t give a toss about the STW roadmap quite honestly, neither am I upset that I can’t see it.

The decision to change the icons 24 hours before we put the key up at the bottom of the forum and in the Join Us page was my idea. I thought it would be fun to see how long it took for people to work it out.

That escalated quickly.

We changed some colours and some words. I’m going to step away and watch Ted Lasso with my wife and have a laugh. Then I might have a beer. Tomorrow I might ride my bike and see if I can’t remember why the f…. I decided all that would be a bit of fun.

You know, If nothing else, I like the colour tags just because they’re colour tags. they’re a bit of fun, they brighten up the forum. I don’t really care if they mean something, or in fact don’t mean anything.

The thing I don’t enjoy is that whenever changes happen to the forum like this, some folk just totally loose their shit, for no other reason than (it seems) to have a dig at the folk who’re running the forum, which seems to me to be a pretty shitty way of going about it. Even if you’re a designer or a programmer or some other sort of web specialist, Just have a little dignity and a bit of courtesy for your fellow professional, rather than use a public space to signal to everyone else what an intolerant prick you are…

Ok, so I just want to say sorry if any of my comments have upset or offended mark or cougar, or anyone else involved at stw.

I was just trying to put across how the changes are perceived by the user, and point out that while this place can be a bear pit, it’s actually because, as a user group, we care about the forum, magazine and STW in general.

I imagine that the expertise that is so critical here would be happy to lend a hand/give opinion on proposals (in private) to provide feedback before making things live. Particularly thinking of Bez’s comments about readability.

I’m honestly just trying to share how it makes your user group feel, and not criticise the work being done.
