I got some Goma as emergency spares.

Cheers OP, just ordered 2 Vittoria AKA’s (price works fine for me!) for £18.99 delivered. Perfect tyre for my SDW attempt this year.

I actually like the Goma. The knobs are BIG. Bigger than a Minnion, more like the FBF version.

I was really hoping some vittoria cx tyres would pop up as they’re ££££.

The Gato 2 29 is a steal at effectively £13 when the discount code is applied. Superb winter XC slop tyre (got very good review on Pink Bike).

I got some of the Conti Trail Kings when they were a tenner a pop a while back. They’re rather nice compared to my usual HR2 2.3 / Spec Ground Control 2.3 combination.

I use them all summer f&r, rear in winter.
Good tyres apart from proper slop. Supple, easy tubeless, reasonable grip.

Not quite as good as XR4, more like a Nobby Nic or Ardent.

Sounds good to me and for £15 a pair it’s hard to argue. Especially as they’re the TNT version so will go straight up tubeless…

Anyone had experience of the regular Goma (non-TNT version) going up tubelessly? 29 x 2.25 version on Planet X is TNT but the 29 x 2.4 version isn’t, and I’d like the wider ones ideally…

Also, the Conti Trail King 29 x 2.4 folding – doesn’t state, but I guess they’re tubeless too?

I bought some of the Trail King earlier I t he year and they were an absolute pig to set up tubeless.
They did pop onto the rim easily enough but, even after scrubbing the tyres in hot water/degreaser and then wiping the sidewalks with sealant before fitting they wept sealant constantly and gradually deflated over a 24hr period for several weeks (Stan’s fluid).
Finally got them to stay inflated by using Stand Race fluid but they still wept sealant through the sidewalls.
Gave up in the end…

I’m turning my soul into a more XC build and putting it on a diet. Any recommendations on xc light tyres on there?

Continental Trail King, Mountain King, Der Kaiser, of various carcasses and rubber types. All a pain to get tubeless.

Once up, great. Good tyres. But I’m reluctant to buy any more.

Vittoria though = first time every time.

I was considering a pair of the Clement Strada LGG Folding at 2 for £30, to get me through riding on the road for the rest of the winter. Although the Vittoria Trail Tech G+ Tubeless Ready at 2 for £20 , and the Vee Tyre Co CXV Cyclocross Gravel Tyre at 2 for £22.48 are also both tempting…

Goma 29 x 2.4 here – went up tubeless easily with Tesa tape on a 25mm id rim. I had some Gato’s once on a 26er – I’m lucky to be alive to tell the tale, they only lasted 2 rides because I thought I might have been riding like a jessie on the first one so gave ’em another go

Goma went up first time for me, one held pressure the other took a few days to seal completely (losing about 10psi overnight).

The standard versions are about 100g lighter than the tnt versions apparently.

I’ve just had to nip out to the shed after reading that about the Contis. Nope, they’re both still inflated and doing just fine!
I originally put them on my FS (on WTB ST i25s) but the tyre was too tall to fit in the back of it (Process 111) so I took them off and put them on the Stache’s wheels (Pancenti TL28s). In both cases, they went up with no hassle at all using Stan’s fluid and a bit of Fairy Liquid.
I seem to remember giving them a good old scrub with a rough brush to get rid of any release goop, but that was it. I’d not been expecting much at £10 a tyre (I’d been thinking of using them for occasional trips to BPW to save my good tyres) but they’ve been really rather good, and the extra volume over a 2.3 Ground Control seems to have saved the rear rim on the Stache from the usual dings and thunks.
Conversely, my go-to rear, the Spec Ground Control, always seems to have leaky sidewalls. I’ve had a few Maxxis do that, too.

Anyone used gato2? They’re light, xc tyres that sound good in mud so decent for English conditions. I like good volume in my tyres so wondering how big they are and how they go up tubeless?

I bought one of these, tried it yesterday on hard tarmac, pumped up to silly PSI to ensure it sealed up OK.

Initial impression, Heavy and a bit draggy, but not as bad as I’d expected.

I’ll do a run on the mud on Saturday and let you know what I think, it’s boggy as hell on one of the trails I ride, really thick, sticky, gloopy clay like mud.

I used one on the back on Tuesday. Seems pretty good. Grippy enough. Didn’t roll too badly. They are about 1.1 kg but seem decently sturdy so ideal for the rear.

Quite square on a 30mm rim though so anything over that might square them up a bit much.

Cants go wrong for £19.

I out a Gato on the back of my hardtail (27.5×2.1″ tubeless). Was excellent – fast rolling and amazing grip in the mud and over wet roots. I was impressed.
