It’s all coming together slowly. Frames, forks, wheels are ordered. Tyres are ready. Tubes are done. We’ve got a bit of a hiccup with the cranks, but I don’t think it’s terminal.

    Christmas!

I think Brant said “late summer”. The original plan was to use other tyres, but we were really keen to hold the £1000. The On-One tyres took longer than expected. I think it’ll be worth the wait.

Good stuff…..so, am I going to be able to buy this in less than 12 months is the big question?

Druidh: well spotted. The bike probably could have been released then but we weren’t 100% happy. The refinements are worth the wait IMO.

It’s been a lot of fun. Never had a project where we had to source so many own model parts.
Frame, obviously. Fork has been through three iterations. Wheels, consisting of our own rims and hubs. Tyres has taken ages. We have a bb and crank too.
Amazed it’s taken quite so long. But nearly there now.

If you need an independent review from a fatty owner whom mainly rides singletrack drop me a line. I understand you are not marketing this as a sand or snow bike so an opinion from an experienced fatty rider in the woods could be useful 😉

Brant, when you have finished the fatty, could you look at doing a tandem please?

ooooh….an on-one mountain tandem would be ace! With rack mounts etc. Also an on one electric utility bike while we are in wish list teritory.

i was thinking an inbred/456 tandem would be good, i could use some butch am/dh wheels i have with some 200mm disks, and find a set of coil forks with a steel steerer. I have looked into a tandem but they seem terrible vfm compared to what i would hope on one would make one for.

The average on-one buyer is getting older and, let’s be fair, fatter. Obviously frame failures are a major issue, but it’s harder to build bikes that can withstand the weight of the average buyer now – hence shifting everything over to Fatty frames.
Expect a fatty carbon 456 next.

I used to think that. Just been out to see Daughter No:1 in the Kalahari desert (she’s a research zoologist) ….by God I’d have loved to have taken one for that terrain!(Also saw the point of owning a 4×4 for the first time too. Very enlightening trip.)
