  • Numpty fork/hub compatibility question…

Apologies in advance for asking this, but I am to anything even vaguely
technical what George Michael is to responsible motoring.

I have QR forks on my hardtail at present, but want to fit some other
forks which are 20mm Maxle. The hub isn’t compatible, so would I be better
off buying a new hub or simply getting a whole new front wheel?

    Depends what you have.
It’s generally cheaper these days to replace the whole thing but if you have a nice low use rim then it might be good to swap. If you can get a hub that is the same size then you could reuse the spokes (if they are OK)

I would strongly advise getting a hub that can swap between 15 & 20mm to improve you ongoing compatibility.

If its a particularly good rim that’s in decent condition that you wish to keep it might be worth getting a good wheel smith to build it up with a hub of your choice but you need to factor in spokes and labour costs too.

Otherwise you may be better off buying a full wheel be it pre built or hand built to order from somewhere and trying to sell yours.

Weigh up the costs and decide from there.

Thanks guys. The rim is in good shape, so I’m getting them to fit a new convertible Hope hub.
