I haven’t been able to ride offroad for a year because of a back problem. This morning I spent an hour riding singletrack in the local woods complete with bluebells. On a steel hardtail. I haven’t stopped smiling.

Sounds great, what treatment are you getitng for your back ❓ I was on the NHS for years and they are shite X crap X bollocks.

That said I’m healing now and enjoy biking when ever I can, good luck with your back and the biking!

    Thanks all 🙂
kaesae – I found a decent sports physio and follow her advice to the letter re stretching, exercises, hydration and supplements. Two months practically immobile scared me silly so I’ve got the incentive!
Think I’ll go out tomorrow too…………….

good one 😀 hope your back gets better. (apologies for droning on now) my back get’s really sore if i am standing at a gig (i leave the gig walking like john wayne).i think it might have something to do with pressure points in my feet (but am just guessing) have been to docs once but will get another appointment.the thing is that most of the time there is no pain whatsoever, just if i’m standing for any length of time.oh and when i ride my bike (i always wear a rucksack/camelback) my lower back sometimes feels like it’s gone to sleep? apologies for hijacking your thread oldgrump08 😳

racefacec90 – my physio traced my problem back to pronation which I think means tilting of the foot. That then triggers other bits doing things they shouldn’t to counter the condition, which can lead to trapped nerves etc. Part of my ‘cure’ has been to use foot beds. Good luck, hope you sort it soon.

Bad back on a hardtail? Wouldn’t a full suss be kinder to your already strained back?

lucien – I’m not riding for long, the trails are not too lumpy (apart from the dried out hoof marks), and the h/tail’s lighter so easier going through gates etc!

My back was in very good condition up until november 2004, I used to do a lot of yoga and other stretching as well as tai boxing/dynamic tensions.

My problems started when I was bench pressing 200lbs and I truggled and pushed with my feet, the key to a healthy back is to work with your whole body and not abuse it, also to do specific exercises to strengthen and also make your back and other muscles supple.

Starting the day with a hot back and then some dancing and stretching for me is perfect!

Good luck to everyone with back problems and the also the riding, if anyone wants more info about my back exercises and system of keeping my back happy, just email me!

Hope everyone reading this has a good weekend, ridefree!
