Northumberland is actually crap, It’s almost as bad as Cornwall*.

    The beaches are always windy…

    & crowded & cloudy…

    Don’t even bother.

*Cornwall IS the most overrated county in the UK*

If I didn’t live where I do already, there is NO QUESTION that I would be up there faster than the police cameras could operate.

It’s not though, if.. you go where not everyone else goes (st Ives, padstein etc) and be a bad parent.
    We’re going next Saturday 😉

There are midges outside of Scotland??

I think I’d be right at home there. If it wasn’t for all the posts above, telling me how crap it is.

On an entirely unrelated note, the Scottish side of the Solway is rubbish, especially Kippford. I wouldn’t bother going if I was you.

Ohhh.. hang on there.. the Solway is unbelievably stunning! My C2C on NCN72 last year was amazeballz, but my memories only seem to recall the Solway ….

    Stunning.

Sorry to spoil it, but it really is.

Kippford is an amazing place and living in North West Northumberland I can honestly say that I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else

I know, but sometimes you really have to celebrate the uniqueness and beauty don’t you.

    I’m actually a little bit jealous…

Just wait until the locals get pissed off with too many visitors with their southern habits and tastes – it will end up with pitchforks and burnings…..just like it was when I lived there 😆

    We’re going next Saturday

Find me somewhere in Cornwall where there’s few people & you can park for free for a couple of hours, near the coast.

    Yeah that killed it..

Erm.. there’s a cool little beach called Wanson Mouth between Widemouth Bay and Milook, the path’s hidden by some bushes but you can park on the wide bit of road just opposite it and wander down. There aren’t any shops, toilets or ice cream trucks so the masses stay away.

There are loads of beaches like this around Cornwall, you just need an OS map and a sense of adventure (read several failed attempts and lots of futile walking).

We spent Saturday on Long Sands beach at Tynemouth and enjoying fantastic fish and chips from Crusoe’s beach cafe. Lush.

    Bit cold though innit.

Nah! Kids and I were in swimming in the North Sea.

    It’s not cold – it’s character building.

Recently moved here from the SE coast after visiting family over the last few years. As above, it is awful, definately nothing interesting to see, no where to ride at all, absolutey no amazing variety in riding places, the locals are all rude and speak funny(*), under snow 364 days of the year etc…………….

(*) they do speak odd but then probably think the same of me with my posh southern accent 😀

I met a couple on the campsite at Beadnell last weekend. They were packing up early saying in their best Yorkshire accent “We’re going home – there’s nowt to do here!”

Don’t think they were impressed when I started laughing.

Btw – Craster Arms in Beadnell serves decent scran.

Looking at the above, there’s absolutely no way I’ll be changing the plans I had, and heading anywhere near it in the September weekend holiday.

    Such a pity.
