Non dropper seatpost of choice?

Obviously used to be Thomson, but they are crazy money now and I found them to be annoyingly fractionally undersized anyway.

Any thoughts on something with a good cost-weight ratio? 27.2, ideally carbon and in-line, but open to suggestions. Ta.

Unhelpfully, I’m going to say Thomson, though I had an Easton one on one of the kids’ bikes when she needed a longer one and that was fine.

Managed to snap the clamp off an RF Turbine so not that.

It does depend on length and setback though, as there are more choices with shorter ones? Personally I’d avoid anything which doesn’t have a 2-bolt clamp.

Haha. I am reluctant to go Thomson as I’m pretty sure the seat tube on my frame is on the large size of 27.2mm, which is probably a bad combo of tolerances.

Just fitted a USE Evo UD Carbon to a new gravel bike after spending far too much time looking at alternatives.

Would it be feasible to get the frame reamed to the correct size?

I have a USE Duro carbon on my carbon hardtail and it has been faultless. Mine is not 27.2, but they are available.

Have multiple across the bikes, Giant carbon from an old TCR, Deda, Easton carbon, Thomson, Bontrager carbon… All much of a muchness to be honest. What matters to me is the quality of the clamp and whether they can take the non-circular carbon rails on newer saddles (my titanium post on the Enigma cannot). I’ll say Thomson, but mine is a setback mounted reverse to allow a forward position for track and TT. But the Deda is also fine. You didn’t give a budget. Enve if money no object. Nice clamp too.

Thomson. The several I’ve had have been faultless for me, in stark contrast to probably every OEM post I’ve had the misfortune of adjusting after some use. A couple of Ritchey posts have been OK for me too.

Not carbon, but we’ve got these here Pro ones on our bikes (MTB) – absolutely no problems even if it has single bolt clamp.

I’ve had no issues with Thomson either, they just last and have sensible clamps, although I’ll agree that they do seem silly money at the moment. The last one I bought was second hand from someone here and it’s been great for years; could be worth popping a Wanted ad in the classifieds.

If you’re feeling really flush, Singular now do some lovely titanium posts in 27.2. I’d love one for my Swift but after getting carried away in the Wiggle sale (now building up a gravel bike) I can’t justify one.

I’ve been using one of these on my gravel bike for a year.

Thomson clamp is great, but they always seemed fractionally undersized, and the machined finish wears very quickly if you ever drop/raise your post, leaving them yet more undersized.

I’ve had good results with USE Ti Duro posts, although the clamp is fiddly to set up. Very nice and flexy too. Carbon, I’d probably look at Hope.

|I like the Thomson posts, but if the cartridge craps out on you it’s a £120 pro rebuild as it’s very much not user rebuildable. I’ve had two of them blow. Bikeyoke if posh. Otherwise i have no idea.

Based on not wanting a dropper I’m guessing it’s because you’re just riding along – so carbon comfort for the win.

I’ve got Toseek carbon ones on mine and the kids CX bikes and they’re absolutely bang on, they certainly take a fair bit of hammer during a CX season and they look as good as they did when new.
