Honestly, I’m not surprised at the cost, it’s what happens with fully integrated infotainment systems. Just take a look at the systems installed in current Mercedes cars, where the dash consists of two almost full-width screens carrying all of the cars’ systems, and ask yourself what happens if it fails, and just how do you replace it.
I know what happens when it fails, the car is undrivable – you have no information about speed or any driver aids at all, let alone navigation or anything like that. It happened to an eighteen month old A-Class as it left our QC after body and paint restoration, resulting in the car being taken to a dealer on a transporter.
Good thing the warranty was still valid…
