winter trainer currently has 25 4seasons.  Assuming 28s fit are they worth the (small) extra weight?  Genesis equilibrium with h sons archetype rims

just got back from a short first ride on 28’s  smooth as.

conti ultrasports £12 from Merlin, mind they are heavy at 330 grams, but they seem to role along well enough.

28s are worth it if they fit for the extra comfort at little speed loss, Contis often size big, my 28mm Grand Sport Race are ~31mm wide on 17mm internal rim width wheels.

Modern 28’s are worth having. My recommendations on personal use are black chilli Conti GP wireds (about £17 a pop) or GP4’s for better wet weather use

28s will be a bit more consistent for grip on poor surfaces. Probably better rolling resistance too. I’d go for them if they fit!

Anything bigger than 23mm belongs on an MTB.

Can’t get anything bigger than 23mm on my road bikes.

    Yes, go 28.

Beware though if you’re tempted with other Conti tyres: 4season 28mm and GP4000 25mm are almost the same size!

I discovered this when I fitted the GP4000 28mm I had bought on the basis that 4season 28mm fitted in fine…

This is how we all felt until recently, manufacturers have started making frames with more clearance and bigger fast tyres these days, which means the theoretical benefits of larger tyres where before anything over 23s would be a touring tyre.
For the record, gp4000s are very tight in 25c on my road bike.
