Following the recent “how are you coping after 50” thread here’s a guy that seems to be coping just fine at 59.

Ned Overend wins the US National Fat Bike Championship

Inspiration for all of us that are old enough to remember a world without the internet.

Certainly one of my mtb heroes…my mate took a good photo of him at a world cup race in Madrid complete with Tioga rear disc wheel!

Ned’s absolutely brilliant at 59 but in his prime he was phenomenal !! He must still love riding and training like a pro. I can see someone like Nick Craig still mixing it at his age.

A proper legend. Still have a copy of his Mountain Bike like a Champion book from back in the day.

If you mean as in World Superbike riding fame, yes it is, both him and his brother race mtb’s now. Ben Spies is running a cycling team called Elbowz Racing, which is road based. Nice to see them all doing something cycling.

At Mayhem in 2003 there was a guy at sign in with overhead written across the back of his shirt. I thought “who is this turkey? ”

    It was him.

Saw him again in the race once or twice too, but not for long.

    Meh. Damn predictive test.

It said “Overend” on his shirt.

just been out this morning riding in the mud.

On the rear of my bike is a Specialized Control 29″ ‘The Captain’ tire. One of the guys at work asked last week why this tire was named so.

Told him about ‘The Lung’, ‘The Captain’ or ‘The Boss’ as we used to call him in XC racing.

I remember him racing a National XC event in the UK in the 90s and we saw him disappear off the start line, never saw him again. He did turn down the 1st place prize for the Pro class, which was a classy move, he gave it to the next guy.
