Yeah, I definitely prefer fur-free to furry for getting stuck into.

Although the fur can help to contain the juices…

And I like like a nice pear as well.

Aren’t they a crossbred fruit apple and peach?

No, Nectarines are just a type of peach. No cross breeding required.

Why are you asking the question anyway? Have you run out of mini Cheddars?

We have both in the greenhouse. Another month or so and they’ll be ready to eat. 😀

    It’s a very common missconception.

Nectarines here, like a bald peach.

Apparantly they are idetical apart form the skin being furry or not.

Gosh, for some reason I thought they were a cross between a peach and plum.

Neither for me, I’ll have an anaphalaxic (sp?) reaction if one gets near my lips. And I’ve left my epi-pen at home again…

    Ah! Peaches are simply sublime!

    @Drac I think you’re right.
Nectarines are the first of the frankenfruits: a cross of peaches and tangerines. At least that’s what I was told when I was little, and have believed stridently ever since.

    Necatarines all the way.

The fur on peaches gives me the heeby-jeebies.

I like walking on the beaches, looking at the peaches.

    I love both

A perfectly ripe peach or nectarine is one of the nicest thing you can put in your mouth

Had some disappointing ones recently that never achieved optimum ripeness before starting to go mouldy – very disappointing

a cross of peaches and tangerines

never heard that combo (don’t think it’d even be viable)
heard apple+peach (don’t think that’s even viable either), and plum+peach (which is a possible combo, but iirc is called a Pleach)

At least that’s what I was told when I was little, and have believed stridently ever since

seems lots of people have been told such things when little and believed them to the extent they’re adamant it’s true.

anyway, why choose between a bald peach, and one with a bit of fuzz, when you can have 1 tree with both on, and indeed other fruit of the plum family ?
