I have bought a number of IcyBox's on the recommendation from someone on this forum, I cannot remember the name of the person who recommended it and the one I had was great but a client killed it and another I bought for a different client has also died. Support from Raidsonic is sh1t and Scan told me that they have had a 10% return rate with these devices.

I have looked at the LG and Synology NAS units which seem to be good but wondered whether anyone had any personal recommendations!

I have a Lacie NAS drive which is slower than downloading things straight off the net most of the time. AVOID!

    unlucky with your icybox.

Ive had mine running permanently on for over 3 years with no reboots and it's never missed a beat.

Its abit slow and will get replaced with a new raid set up later this year, but not for being unreliable.

cant recommend any alternatives yet Im afraid.

Maybe get a router that can turn plain USB drives to NAS storage?

I build headless linux boxes out of old pcs and fill em full of drives. Not portable but easy to do and cheap and you keep adding drives as and when..

I've got a Buffalo 500Gb attached to my router.

Had it a couple of years, just use it for back-ups and shared files.

Works well for everything I do.
