The kirkstile inn. I won a top gear challenge to their once. Set of from honister ten mins before the wife in the car. Just made it. They have loweswater gold.

Try riding from their round melbreck to ennerdale for a proper wild feeling ride. There maybe minor boggage.

Strickland Arms does good food, but no rooms
Maybe the Derby Arms? Same chain – Ainscough pubs

Can I be really unhelpful and just name some of my favourite lakes pubs?
Keswick – Magnolia (really a restaraunt but they have lovely beer)
    Elterwater – Brittania
    Sawrey – Tower bank arms

Please do. Prefer a good pub with rooms above. Needs to be in a village

Dog n Gun is Keswick was a favourite. I think it has been refurb’d, tho, and not to good effect.

Uhh, think the Brittania does rooms, the Tower Bank definitely does – small but very pleasent and great food. Sawrey is more a hamlet. Close to both Hawkshead and Ambleside/Windermere. Riding possible from door.

Edit: If you’re looking for somewhere special then Tower Bank is it. Small, friendly, good food, excellent beer, well located, cosy rooms, open fires in the winter, sunny aspect outside in the summer. Idyllic really.

Eagle and child is a great pub, with rooms, in Staveley, that’s near Kendal.

The pub we went to the most in Keswick was the George, it’s just off the market square

Thinking about the E&C in bed…and a cunning plan was hatched…

    Bakery- check.

    Booze galore- check.

Relaxing weekend overnighter for ‘family’. Check.

Nan Bield/green quarter loop might be an add on to the mix..

    Dog and Gun…doesn’t sound good!

Well as far as this regular visitor to Keswick is concerned an iconic and unique Lakeland pub has been ruined.
It’s ironic really that they’ve created an imitation traditional pub from what was an actual real traditional pub.
    Some feat.

Looking at the google images I can see your point. Taken a pub I’d like and made it a pub that mrshora would like..

We had a night in the Black Bull in Coniston the other Saturday. Lovely room right on top of the pub, superb ale and food. Loads for you to do in and around the village too.

Royal Oak in Braithwaite is good, with a decent choice of beers/lagers. I liked the Blazing Saddles last visit and only a couple of miles from Keswick.

Big “me too” for the Tower Bank Arms

Sorry for the hijack but is there a rec for a boozer with decent food walkable from Hawkshead? Tower Bank just a bit too far after a few 🙂

    Tower Bank Arms
Omfg what a difference 2 years makes

Had a nice meal tonight but the clientele has changed completely

Have been there many times previously and it’s been ticking over nicely with the local farmers dropping in for a beer and a chat

Tonight on the other hand was awful
Food and beer great but now taken over by yuppie families with kids dressed in Boden and 60 somethings talking in loud voices about the cottages they’ve bought up in the valley

And the old geezer holding court at the bar was just an embarrassment

New favourite lake district pub needed statto

    They have loweswater gold.

It’s the home of Loweswater Gold – used to be brewed in the shed. Enjoyed a couple there last night.
