I’m organising a piss-up charity ride to Burges next year and, as these things do, my spreadsheet is getting rather in-depth! I’m finding myself trying to work to exactly how long each day will take.

Does such thing as Naithsmith’s rule (as used in hill walking to determine time taken walking up hill eg, 4km/h for horizontal distance + 10mins for every 100m climbed) exist for road riding?

Then I suppose I’ll have to take into account the forecasted wind speed and direction. And the effect of each pint imbibed the night before. And the calorific value of breakfast…

    PLEASE MAKE IT STOP! 😆

    Cheers,
    Jamie

Impossible to say without knowing your riders.

But if I was out on my own I’d expect to average 15-18mph dependant on terrain.

My 8 year old lad will average just over 10mph on a day out.
