  • My last Road/Gravel bike question for a while. Gearing related.

I’ve opted for a Niner RLT frame and just need to decide on gearing now. Looking at either Shimano Ultegra or Sram CX1 with hydros.

Any suggestions, experience greatly appreciated? Thanks

I run Ultegra 11 speed with hydraulics on the Kite as 1×11.

At the moment I’ve got a 42t on the front and one set of wheels with CX tyres has an 11-32 cassette while the other set of wheels running a set of Barlow Pass road/gravel tyres has an 11-28 cassette.
No problems with either so far. I also have a 38t chainring to use if needed but haven’t bothered with it yet.
the 42/11 is plenty fast enough for me on road and the 42/28 has got up every road climb I’ve needed it to so far.

Shimano 1×11 (unless you like seam)with a big cassette and a Lindarets road link, or a Lindarets tanpan to run a shimano clutch. My 40 front and 40 rear is ace for big days off-road on big hills.
