so ive just converted the GF mtb to permanent turbo duty over winter and thought id bung a turbo trainer tyre on it.

There are different sizes, does it matter or should i just get the cheapest one? its for a elite fluid elastogel

    they are
    continental hometrainer II 1.75
    schwalbe insider 1.35
    vittoria zaffiro pro 1.1

I’d get the biggest one unless it’s humungously more expensive.

Does it actually make a difference? I used to have a conti hometrainer but now I’m just using a marathon, it’s gone a bit square but it works perfectly well and cost buttons. Maybe it’ll not last as long, but it’s doing fine so far.

The proper trainer tyres are single ply. Normal tyres can de-laminate when they get hot if you on it for more than forty minutes or so.

Conti trainer tyre. Mine lasted about 5000 miles before i started using a road bike on the trainer.

heard trainer tyres are a bit quieter and last longer and want to save the mtb slicks for the new year.
if it doesnt seem to make any difference ill post back

I have the Conti and the Vittoria and the Vittoria is a much smoother and grippier (right term for a turbo???) tyre. The Conti is a bit plastic and hard by comparison and was easier to make slip on really hard efforts. Of course the turbo itself affects this too but overall Vittoria is much nicer to ride. Even a 1 inch slick 26 inch tyre was nicer than the Conti in my experience.

I bought a cheap Bonty slick for the turbo. About 1.75 I think. It’s black, it goes round and round, not great on the corners, oops sorry wrong thread… Seriously don’t think it really matters, buy whatever’s available. If you wear out a turbo tyre you’ll have become a hardcore racer and will know plenty.
Enjoy your winter and please if you do one thing, download a Sufferfest video to your laptop. Costs about a tenner and will really help drive you to new levels, which is why you’re on the turbo right?
Get ‘The Hunted’ to start; it’s the ‘friendliest’ of them all. The day you buy ‘Revolver’ you’ll be a steely eyed machine (after having a lie down to get over the nausea).
