As my Endura gloves are finally on the way out, I need to look for some replacements. Trouble is, Endura have updated the MT500 and they’re a bit spendy, so I’m looking for recommendations on decent alternatives for max £30.

Must have touch screen compatibility and velcro tab for doing up properly. Some extra padding around the palm is always a bonus for me too. I’ve never really liked ones where the palms are too thin! Some knuckle protection wouldn’t be a bad thing either.

Lastly I’m no fan of Fox gloves as they always tend to fall apart after hardly any time. I was going to go for Endura Humvee’s but I’ve read enough poor reviews on the build quality of those too.

    Thanks in advance.

100% Brisker is the 3 season version, they also do a lighter weight version.

I love Troy Lee XC’s which are a quality piece of kit. Wear them til they eventually fall apart then buy some more. They’re cheap as chips at Merlin at the moment .

Hirzl gripp. Leather is really nice, and very grippy, also works with screen.

Specialised grail, the padding that fills in the palm rather than raises the already high points of contact is a revelation, and you will wonder why no one else thought of it first.

Specialized Grail was a favourite of mine but is sadly discontinued.

The touchscreen compatibility’s going to rule out most tbh (my Briskers are supposed to be, but aren’t much good at it- it’s good enough for really basic stuff but anything more than “bugger, forgot to start strava” and I have to take them off)

are they? I just bought a couple of pairs this week, I will stock up on some more if they are not going to be available again.

I’ve recently bought some Humvee Plus, or whatever the ones with padded palms are called. They’re great apart from the velcro tab that is either too small or the velcro designed not to pluck your clothes and subsequently keeps coming undone. Very frustrating.

I use Mechanix Fastfit. Very cheap, very hard wearing amd the palm is a good shape.

They do models with knuckle protection, and the Original has a velcro tab but the palm is one-piece so I prefer the fastfit on the bike.

+1 for Mechcanix. Very hard wearing and variety of colours to match the frame or outfit 🙂
Touchscreen works fine on my garmin but not my phone.

Why do gloves come with Velcro closures? Utterly pointless, I hate the stuff.

Why do so many have light breathable main glove then some crappy neoprene / in breathable wrist?

    Exactly.

I used to buy royal racing gloves, nice n light, no Velcro, brilliant, lasted well for something that was akin to a pair of tights.

Endura have just too much going on, like something a marvel hero would wear. 🤣

I used to love 661 Raji lightweight summer gloves, then for reasons known only to themselves they added a pointless velcro fastening and totally ruined them.

Assos do some great MTB trail gloves. Not a huge range but they are well thought though. A bit spendy as with Assos but well made, good fit and I have 3 years and counting out of mine with no wear yet.

100% Celium for warm temps, 100% Brisker for colder temps.

Decathlon’s MTB gloves are good, breathable and work with touchscreens. Under £20.

I got some 100% Ridefit from Merlin a couple of weeks ago.
The palms have no padding, but apart from that they seem to suit the brief.

Only issue that I have found with them was getting them onto my hands initially – the wrist band was really tight. Once on they are a perfect fit & the band seems to have opened up slightly, but it was a real struggle to get them on initially!

I went for fluo orange & they are very bright!

Winter (unless Baltic) = 100% Brisker

Not winter = 100% “normal” gloves or Dakine Syncline

Baltic winter  = proper winter gloves

I bought some 100% briskers after unanimous recommendation on here. They’re decent, but I find the palms a bit too thin – they were meant to be for colder weather but the thin palms let them down slightly there. Still decent gloves. I’m comparing to a pair of Giro Ambient I had years ago, which were great – possibly the perfect glove at the time, Very similar to Briskers but with a thicker palm, but the new ones are too thick and cumbersome.

I also have some Alpkit gloves. They fit well, decent palms, light back, only downside is an over generous cuff which switches my watch on and off when not wanted.

Dunno if you can still buy them, but Dakine Highwire have a velcro closure and are more durable than most I’ve had. They have a bit of knuckle padding IIRC.

Madison gloves are good too – and can often be picked up cheap.
