Why are there so many MTB taboos?? There are no way as many in road cycling.
FF helmet for XC = big no no? Why???
Goggles with OF helmet = another big no no? why??
White tyres = ANOTHER big no no? Why??
I’m sure theres loads more. I’d love to know why you’re not supposed to any of the above…..more than just “coz you’ll look stupid and be laughed at”

Being a Roadie on an MTB seems to be a taboo at the moment!

I take you haven’t seen this:

    The Rules

I have to admit that I do now line up my tyre logos with the valve (rule 40).

right, get your XC bike out, put your facer on. Go for a 20 mile rideup some hills…

all will become clear. And also sweaty and too hot…

If you’ve ever worn a FF helmet that would be pretty obvious I would think.

    Flat bars with bar ends

I thought it was riser bars with bar ends?

    in my case;

getting both wheels off the ground at the same time except by accident.

Velomati’s rules are garbage. Everyone knows tyre logos should line up with wheel logos, not the valve

Haha! As a Scotsman living in Devon it’s something I’m having to get used to. Still just sounds all wrong though.

Yeh. Wiggins is such a ****.

A roadie friend was telling me that caps on tube/tyre valves are a big no-no.
At least we don’t have to shave bodily hair to fit in.

Is it taboo to wear a skinsuit on an MTB if your not doing an XC race?

moto style mudguards seem to be a big no no, personally think (in a true Tony style) they’re great.

-Any clothing made for mountain biking
    -Changing tyres ‘for the conditions’
    -Carbon fibre anything
    -Titanium anything
    -Fox anything
-Lycra for any purpose other than undercrackers
-Anything chosen to be the same colour as anything else
    -Big rings
-Any bike that costs more than the current most expensive Boardman MTB
-Knowing the manufacturer of your bike’s brakes/mech/shifters/without looking. Even worse if you know the model!

At least they are sensible – roadie ones are just stupid – no backpacks, no peaks, no baggies. I make sure I break them every time I ride to work.

The main one I notice for roadies, is if they happen to pass someone on an MTB, ignore them at all costs.

seat bags on mtb’s, infact anything other than actual components fixed to your bike.

I own a FF and dont mind it so much. The point is, if i dont mind it why should it bother others??? Why should i read things like “i laugh when i see people wearing FF’s and XC runs” and “retards”??
The velominati is really funny…….but only about 5 points are valid. There’s a greater amount of finger pointing and a childish mentality to some MTB riders. We should just be able to wear what we like and help the sport grow.

Yeah I guess so. I’ve worn my full face helmet on XC rides when my XC lid was bust – no reason I should get mocked for it.

I took it off for all the climbs though – do you really not find it unpleasant? I find it incredibly hot and sweaty and hard to breath.

not really. I wear a Casco Viper which is pretty well vented and i also enjoy having my teeth in my head, ha 🙂

My mate has a good one, ‘go big or go home’ around a wheel with flames and crossbones.

Anything tribal looks a bit tired though.

Usually because they’re uncomfortable or make the experience less pleasant. The same reason you don’t wear a FF on an XC ride.

Well, we wouldn’t want to have to slow down to talk to you, now would we 😛

I think there is one thing that should be taboo and from what I have seen isn’t.

We are cyclists – not builders – no one wants to see your bum crack – cover it either with bibs or with a well fitting top! I hate others bum cleavage.

The rest is just tribal stuff – xc, DH, north, south, trail etc. it’s all fine but should not impact on how you great, meet or talk to people – or indeed help them when they are stuck, broken or lost by the side of the trail.

I reckon I could name the make and model of every component on my bike, but it was a custom build.
