Following on from here I bring you Mornington Crescent – National Express Edition! [FX: polite applause]

It’s the game we all know and love, with a twist. Regional networks are in play. Travel the country, collect the tokens, then be the first back to MC to win. Of course, regular token rules apply so you can spend them instead of keeping them if needs be. The official rule guides I have are as follows. If you have any I’m missing, feel free to offer them up. NB: leaving the country is forbidden.

    CESSNOCK
Game based on the Glasgow Underground. Winning station is Cessnock. This is THE classic beginner game, sadly now mostly forgotten. The rules are incredibly simple, only slides and shunts are allowed. Play is restrained to the Underground but Suburban Rail shortcuts are allowed IF you can find them and IF you can pay for them.

    Reward: orange token.

    HUCKNALL
Game based on the Nottingham Tramway. Winning station is Hucknall in this variant, which is often used to promote a slower, less aggressive, but more tactical game than ‘Cessnock’. Similar rules apply to Cessnock, but Spoon is allowed.

    Reward: purple token.

    WANDLE PARK
Game based solely on the Croydon Tramlink system. Winning station is Wandle Park. This game allows shunts, slides and switches as well as basic rules.

    Reward: green token.

    CALLERTON PARKWAY
Game based on the Tyne & Wear metro. Winning station is Callerton Parkway. Diagonals, bogies and industrial action are now in play.

    Reward: brown token.

    HAMILTON SQUARE
Game based on Merseyrail. Stepping up a level in complexity now, nip, knipp and nidd are all viable. Winning station is Hamilton Square, though a direct connection from James Street is considered cheating unless you can justify it.

    Reward: blue token.

    HALL I’ TH’ WOOD
Game based on the Manchester Metrolink. All standard MC rules apply, except when they don’t. The Park ‘n’ Ride expansion is in play. Winning station is Hall i’ th’ Wood.

    Reward: yellow token.

Starting point is anywhere on the TfL map, I’ll let the first player decide.
