  • More girth for a bit of comfort?

I am currently using Panaracer Fire XC Pro 2.1 on my hardtail, and I was wondering if I switched to a fatter rear tyre would I get any additional cushioning?

I was thinking about running a Maxxis Ardent 2.25 or even a 2.4 on the rear? I am roughly 100kg if that makes a difference.

Ardent 2.25s are massive compared to other brands (and even other Maxxis tyres). I run one on my HT and it's a vast improvement over the 2.2 Conti I had over rocks and roots.

Thanks, so you do you think 2.4 is overkill?

Depends on your frame and whether you feel you really need it. I'd think a 2.4 Ardent would barely fit my inbred based on the size of the 2.25. I came from a 2.2 Conti MK, but I've had 2.4 Conti tyres and the Ardent looks and feels bigger (and is just generally better imo).
