After totally wrecking the rear rim on my four year old Croix de Fer, by riding it for 10 miles without a tyre 😳 , I need a replacement.
The bike is used for a mixed bag of road, off-road and will be used for some touring in a few weeks. I rotate between 35mm cx tyres and 25mm ‘tough’ road tyres.
As the wheel is pretty old I reckon I may as we’ll replace the whole wheel.

Any other suggestions? Cheap would be good as I also need to buy panniers, a rack and other tourey stuff.

How about a 32h Open Pro rim on a XT hub?

Ive got h plus son archetype on novatec hubs, nice set of wheels.

I’d go with the option you’ve mentioned, to be honest – I have those rims on my pompetamine, with XT hub up front and WTB single speed on the back. They’ve been flawless so far, and they get a lot of use with heavy loads more often that not. Can’t go wrong, really.
