  • Missus' 40th this month, what to buy….

    Hi Chaps,

It’s my missus’ 40th this month, and I’m proper stumped with that to buy her.

We’ve been together 8 years, and getting married next year.

We don’t want for anything really, and she’s not at all materialistic. We’ve simplified the bike collection to one decent mtb each, and a road bike each.

We do everything together, and have all the kit we need for those things really.

We run, mtb, road ride, mountain walk, winter walk, climb, and do dog related activites – like walking everyday up hills with the pooches.

    Anyone got any ideas?

I’ve a few, but nothing that she would see as a ‘special’ gift.

I did think of buying her a road bike frame, and building it from her rather poor alu frame. But that’s rather expensive….

    Cheers,

    Ricks

Enter her for an event and then buy something related to that
I entered Mrs J for a half marathon and bought her a new GPS running watch to help with the training.

Perhaps a well known eatery on the South Bank in London…….

Another vote for taking her somewhere special.. Allthough you’d benefit too which may/may not please her..

What about some sort of Spa W/e for her and her Mum??

If she’s 40 bin her and spend the money on a Thai Bride?

Yeah somewhere special or an experience she’d enjoy (I’m not sure that taking her up the Oxo would count)…

Took MrsDaRC to the opera in Florence, it was worth at least 2 MTB trips away in brownie points 😀 (mind you she’d upped the anti by getting me a new SantaCruz for my 40th)

    Def take her somewhere.

If you’re into your food, have a look at a dinner, bed and breakfast deal at a michelin starred hotel or similar, they’re not as expensive as you may think.

Or hire a nice little cottage somewhere good for the dogs, and find somewhere nice for dinner.

You can buy breaks with your tesco vouchers, we have a spa break every year foc on them. Take her to a spa and buy her a decent treatment.

Mines 40 next month. We’re going to Paris for a long weekend, though we’re going dutch on that, i’m going to surprise her with a Pamper day at some posh pampering place with a friend (have no idea where to start looking for that!). She’s been hinting for years about an eternity ring so I could surprise her with that – but it means dipping into my Rochshox Pikes fund 🙁

Unless you’re buying several sets you’ll be more than dipping.

Why don’t you ask her what she wants?

    Radical idea…

Buy her a bike/frame better than yours – I speak from experience, you won’t regret it.

I recently upgraded my wife’s bike to a Soul – built to 23lb. Now we’re out every weekend 🙂

She’s 40, so its time you went shopping for an upgrade

Why don’t you ask her what she wants?

She doesn’t want anything. And she really does mean it.

She hates spas, or sitting around, or walking around cities, or any of that kind of stuff. So Paris etc is out of the question.

A frame upgrade would be nice.

I did buy her a Turner Sultan last year, and built it to the same spec as mine – so there’s not much to upgrade really.

I did think I could buy her some XTR shifters, to replace the XTs. But it feels a little bit wrong as a birthday gift.

Or maybe some very bling wheels…

The road frame upgrade is the only thing I’m thinking, but it’s coming up to winter, and up here in Scotland it’s icy for a lot of the time.

    Damn it! She’s too difficult.

That’s just spoiling them. My missus had a long weekend in Paris for her 30th and had to wait another 10 years for an eternity ring.

Now have 9 years to think of something for 50th. Maybe she’d like a rabbit 😯

She likes maps doesn’t she? Get her some map related art work?

Mind you I’m terrible at this sort of stuff, in case you hadn’t noticed. 😮

mini-break could be something one-off like a pakrafting bike/camp, Skye bike trip, canoe/bike combo, etc or some such.

I bought my wife a shed for her 40th. We did have a weekend away as well but I reckon if had been one or the other she’d have gone for the shed.
