IMO you ad clear clearly states they are set tubeless. Buyer is trying it on, call his bluff, give him nothing, full refund if he covers postage.

I hate buyers like that; although I use ebay a fair bit, I no longer sell bikes on there as it’s too much hassle.

Don’t let this buyer get away with it, to me the description is very clear, the pics (which form part of the description) show the tyres have been used and are on the wheels.

As others have said, keep it through ebay, ask him to open a case and if necessary then offer the full refund when the item is returned

I think you might be on to something here.

It’s interesting to see that the buyer is also bidding on loads of other bicycle parts although I can’t see what.
Has he bought the wrong size and wants you to pick up the cost ?

Firstly that a bagain for wheels with tyres. I haven’t even been able to find a 9mm qr 26″ back wheel for that cost that’s even half decent.

Secondly, the tyres are pictured on the rims, with mud on and you list they go up tubeless and have tubeless valves.

Thirdly, if there’s a tiny bit of residue in the tyres, what difference does that actually make.

I’d think of ‘hardly used’ as having been on the bike and used a few times – so definitely not ‘as new’ – so wouldn’t expect the item to be absolutely pristine – just not very worn.

On the point above, I agree that the listing comes across as primarily for the wheels, with tyres thrown in. Therefore a complaint about a slightly dirty inside of a tyre is irrelevant to me.

Who knows which side eBay will fall on if a case is opened – I’ve not got involved in one at all despite having sold quite a lot of stuff. Maybe I’ve just been lucky.

I think I’d not offer any kind of refund and tell him your description was fair and the tyres were just thrown in additionally so you can’t see an issue.

Then see what happens.

He is unreasonable. He bought used parts (a shitload for £60!) and is complaining that they are used. We all know he could clean the wheels and tyres up in 20 minutes or less.

I sell a fair bit on ebay. I’d insist he returns the entire lot for a refund.

Have you tried phoning ebay and speaking with someone? It may be a little painful as the phonelines are not the best as I think you speak with people in the Philipines but they have been quick to connect on the couple times I have used them in recent years and at least then you can state your case and get some proper advice. You can mention the call along with date and time of call on any further communications with the git.

As others, I’d insist he returns the whole lot for a refund. Suspect he’ll conclude it’s not worth the effort and will keep it.

The buyer is a chancer. Return for full refund and move on with your life.

BUT. Others on this thread, myself included, would assume from the description that they are set up tubeless and they will have sealant inside, or at least residue. BUT we have “specialist knowledge”. Most people who ride a bike don’t understand “tubeless”, they barely know how to change gear. They can’t repair a puncture.

To give the buyer the benefit of he doubt, this is a long shot though, maybe he didn’t expect sealant residue, the description doesn’t state there would be residue. It doesn’t state they are actually set up tubeless. All of the clues are there, valves, etc. But it doesn’t say implicitly that they are set up tubeless.

When dealing with eBay customers you have to think in the lowest common denominator. You have to protect yourself from the terminally stupid or the scammers. Cover yourself at every opportunity.

The buyer is still trying it on though.
